KATY STREAMS TO A NEW RECORD

Spotify reports that Katy Perry’s new single, “Chained to the Rhythm” f/Skip Marley, set a first-day streaming record for a single track by a female artist on Friday (2/10) with north of 3 million streams on the service. The Capitol megastar will be performing the song (which is also currently top 5 at iTunes) during the Grammys. In addition to her per-stream royalty, the company’s Swedish HQ will be sending Perry a complimentary shipment of lingonberries.

Spotify is making a PR mess for themselves. Didn't Adele have better numbers with Hello? If people start fact-checking them this will get very embarrassing, very quickly.

Only in the U.K. (and if you stream a song 100 times in the UK, that'll still show up on their Spotify chart, but only the first 10 count towards their singles chart)
