The AM chart is far more urban than Spotify's. Typically, you see 6-10 pop songs in the top 50 on any given day. It makes sense when you consider that they've basically only courted urban listeners over the past few years (look at their exclusives– they're all with rap/R&B artists).

but why????

Well, my guess is that they made that their strategy because urban listeners stream more than listeners of other genres– they tried to pick off the most active streamers from Spotify. But their market share has stayed constant of late, so we'll see if they decide to try something new. After all, other listeners are beginning to adopt streaming as well now–in fact, HDD reported last month that country streams grew more than streams overall during H1 2017–and I think there's a chance their strategy could backfire in the long run.

I guess it does happen occasionaly when a song is EXTREMELY awaited.

But it's a bit of a new phenomenon, for example Hello grew from 1.3 mill its first day to 2.75 mill its 4th or 5th day. So as Spotify has grown i guess it shows more frontloadedness too.

But as you say, a drop like this rarwly occurs

Wow, a HUGE second day for XXX. Big contrast with Uzi, whose songs mostly fell hard. We'll see if any songs from either album pull a Bank Account– right now the leading candidates seem to be Jocelyn Flores and The Way Life Goes.

Out of recent anticipated releases (SOY, Humble, Hello) all of them actually increased streams on their second days WW. Only SOY dropped 5% in the US, compared to an almost 40% drop for Taylor. Granted, her US start was much bigger than those of all other songs, and the drop in US streams accounts for most of the WW drop as well, so she may yet stabilize. Personally I don't see the song having a lot of longevity, but it will be interesting to see her progression.

This would make sense because as Spotify has grown, the proportion of Spotify users that are hardcore music fans has decreased as the service has expanded its reach to attract casual fans– and casual fans are probably more likely than hardcore ones to stream a new song on day 1 and not return to it on day 2.

2.3M is still a great number. If it doesn't drop much further than that the next days :dancehall:

So Youtube insights is showing 994,374 US Youtube streams for LWYMMD for the few minutes Thursday before midnight, but Taylor's artist page isn't showing anything from the song. Can't get the global numbers either :celestial5:

not even the biggest hit of the year SOY stood over 2m, 1.6 is my bet, not even Despacito at its peak, you all standars for taylor are not realistic, especially considering the kind of song, this is not SIO
