Out of curiosity what is the general trend of an album's streams when released?

 

Does it usually peak on the first day or two and then gradually decline or is it more of a slow build to a peak in the middle of the week as it features on more charts and has more exposure?

Wild Thoughts will easily win from it tomorrow, it started off the day without a TTH add and a New Music Friday add, plus it got 1/4 of the day less than Feels

Album tracks see a decline over time which slows if they're put on playlists (like The One) or are generating lots of buzz online (like Teenage Fever did for its J.Lo sample). Album tracks from more successful albums generally see a slower decline.

Keep in mind that many urban acts' album tracks have very mediocre runs on Spotify but still end up high on the overall streaming songs chart because they tend to crush it on Apple Music.

 

Just last week, SZA's "Love Galore" was at #22 on HDD's on-demand streaming chart despite being #57 on Spotify for the week. "To The Max" was at #15 despite being #29 on Spotify. I could cite endless examples from past weeks. And I bet we'll see 2 Chainz's songs chart higher than Lorde's on next Friday's chart.

For non-urban songs, it is not, but for some urban songs AM is the source of a majority of a song's on-demand streaming.
