like, Robbie Williams got a ******* monkey CGI biopic and you're telling me THEE Madonna can't find a producing partner to bring her movie to life?

The Robbie Williams biopic was widely mocked in the US so idk if that's any better than a biopic which has the potential to introduce her legacy to new audiences who wouldn't normally go out of their way to go watch her movie

I'm fine with this, hoping it will cause a boost in his 90s catalog.

not sure what you're trying to say here, but if I understand correctly I think we are saying the same thing: that if the "experimental" Robbie Williams movie got financing and distribution by a major US studio I find it insane that Madonna cannot seem to find financing for hers and has to turn to Netflix

(and also the fact that the Robbie Williams biopic got mocked in the US is part of a bigger discourse)

They might film season 2: Two steps behind :sabrina:

I kind of like the idea of a series. Depending on the length of the series, each episode or two could represent a decade of her career. It'd probably be a more complete story as a series instead of a 2 hour movie.

The only explanation I can think of is that maybe Madonna wanted to cover a lot and no studio was willing to give her that much time?

A series is better but why the hell did she go with the shitty comedy director :deadbanana4:

He will be producing, not directing. So far, that's what's been confirmed.

Madonna wanted 100million for the budget of the film. Universal wasn't willing to put in that much because of how biopics have performed more recently, which was when she started airing this idea of a TV show.

From the info available, this will be a limited series of 4 episodes.

Too small. Each episode should be 90 minutes to somewhat encapsulate Madonna's career.

Madonna's still on that 4-decades-of-music thematic of Celebration Tour?

I guess that can work

Tv shows are dead and have no lasting impact. They have no replay value.

And movies do?

Studios are breaking their heels to launch their **** to streaming as soon as a month after the premiere because people can't be bothered to sit movies anymore, let alone more than once.

She had a biopic already in the works and ready to make with massive funding she didn't like the script and was apparently to demanding so they decided to go seperate ways. The problem is she wants is all done a certain way, I don't think alot of the other artist was that invested.

Madonna's career is too big and too legendary to be fit into a movie, this is the right call

What they should do is follow this up in a couple of years' time with a film that focuses on a specific part of her career, because she does deserve the blockbuster treatment

Looking forward to this

The big question is how much of her career will this series cover. From a narrative perspective, it makes sense to end at Evita/RoL (trying to make it New York —> becoming a star —-> pushing boundaries and getting backlash from Erotica/Sex —> her big redemption and legend status being secured with Evita/RoL and becoming a mother).

But I'd also LOVE for this to be all-encapsulating and cover her "floppier" eras like MDNA/Rebel Heart. I always find those lesser-cared-about parts of an artist's career more interesting, because there's often so little we know. What would a peek behind the curtain of those years look like, and would it be interesting?

I can see why she chose Shawn. She probably became friendly with him after Deadpool & Wolverine, saw how successful not only the film was but the boost it gave Like a Prayer, and she set her mind to it. And when she makes up her mind… :dies:

Anyway, I am excited. Netflix or not, this is something so many of us have been waiting to see!

But his movie was still given a $110m budget for production.

The fact that studios refuse to do the same with Madonna's biopic tells you everything about how much they believe in her biopic.

Studios are right though, i wouldn't give a dime to a movie that Madonna will dire t. She should be executive producer and be heavily involved with the film but should leave the directing to a professional.

They should cast a different actress for every few decades like they did with The Crown. Kate Winslet should play current Madonna
