Heat Waves Posted Monday at 07:02 PM Posted Monday at 07:02 PM Elton's movie made no noise (good or bad). Whitney's flopped. Amy's was a critical and commercial BOMB. Robbie's...no comment. Queen's movie is the only one that made some noise and it was mostly the novelty of the fact this type of movie wasn't a thing. Celebrity life story movies were a fluke. MJ did find success with Broadway but also a fluke because Cher and Tina's shows were short lived. TV show is where it's at. 11

Lower your expectations because you're not getting deep dive into her life or discography. Not sure how you're able to confidently make these declarations based on the info we have. 1) Netflix is a distribution platform, not a production company. Madonna's limited series is being produced by 21 Laps which created Stranger Things, one of the most successful and most acclaimed series globally of the past decade. 2) Netflix gets more Golden Globe and Emmy nominations than any other network nearly every year. Some of the most acclaimed and "prestigious" series of the past decade have been distributed by Netflix. It has by far the biggest content library so naturally it has a ton of junk as well. 8

They have no replay value. nothing really is since monoculture died thanks to streaming. Movies build momentum with awards and festivals and if they don't they get dumped and forgotten on streaming.

KaledKalil Posted Monday at 07:21 PM Posted Monday at 07:21 PM I'm sorry, anyone that question the potencial of her life story being a good movie/series, doesn't know Madonna very well. I'm not even a die hard fan of hers and I can see so much potencial, specially since they can amp it up the drama. It can really be what The Idol tried to. If well done, it can make noise from a trailer alone. And it's not like the Emmys and GG doesn't exist, it can still be an acclaimed limited series. 2

They might as well turn it into a horror show because so far watching this biopic crash and burn has been literally a horror show. 2 hours ago, YourFavoriteWeapon said: This going from a movie to a show The biopic is still in the works, both are taking place. 3

John Slayne Posted Monday at 07:39 PM Posted Monday at 07:39 PM a movie would end up being some dull, watered-down hollywood story they can do so much more with a series 4

spiritboy Posted Monday at 07:51 PM Posted Monday at 07:51 PM I can see this being universally panned by critics and haters At least people with give it a curiosity stream and if they like it, M will have some kind of popularity resurgence. It should be called Candy Shop tho.
Kern Posted Monday at 07:56 PM Posted Monday at 07:56 PM (edited) We want the alboom first mama! And a tour. But the biopic is overdue too I can't wait to see it and enjoy it, after reading this thread I know exactly who WON'T Edited Monday at 07:56 PM by Kern 5

Don't really get this because Rocketman was a hit that made 193M on a 40M budget, Taron was in contention for an Oscar nomination and won the Globe, and Elton won an Oscar. Otherwise I agree. Bohemian Rhapsody is increasingly a major outlier that captured lighting in a bottle. Even the biopics that do well (Elvis, Rocketman, A Complete Unkown) don't smash in the way people seem to think they do. Outside of a theoretical Oscar campaign for whoever plays Madonna, a miniseries makes more sense in like every way. 3
