professor2000 Posted May 4 Posted May 4 Tbh when I saw this clip…I thought it was her weird way of flirting. Like "own" but with a sexual undertone. Wasn't she dating Tupac and Devante from Jodeci? She liked her some chocolate too. 👀 Either way it's a bit weird to say…but my mind went a different direction, lol.

I thought maybe she was flirting. But still wrong to say. But it wouldn't surprise me. I mean…Montell not the bad looking (even now). She was trynna get with him. And apparently he cheated a lot on his wife back then…so he might've let her hit.

If only melodyne existed in the 80s, maybe then I could somewhat enjoy her older tracks…. I don't know where this narrative originated from, but I always found her voice pretty and nice. She's not vocal trinity level, but she is far from what you say she would sound like. 3
Popular Post SmittenCake Posted May 4 Popular Post Posted May 4 (edited) Despite being tied up to a chair and beaten up by white man, Madonna believes black men are the ones who disrespected her the most. She says that her black partners disrespect women because it's a "cultural thing" for them to hate on women because black men grew up without fathers. Yes, she really said this. "I've always in this naive way identified with other minorities because I'm in a minority. You think that somehow unifies you in some philosophical way. But ultimately it doesn't. Because I've found that being a strong female is actually more frightening to the black men that I've dated. It took me a really long time to accept that. I believe that I have never been treated more disrespectfully as a woman than by the black men that I've dated. I've never actually said that to anybody, but it's true and I think it's a cultural thing. So many black men grow up without fathers, without strong male figures, without a sense of romance and seeing a man treat a woman with respect." – Madonna, Spin Magazine, 1998 In the same interview, Madonna messily tries to explain the reasons why black women are „more willing" to accept abuse from a black man. „I think black men have just been **** on for so long, that, in a way, black women are maybe more willing to accept rage from a black man, because they see what's happened to them. They grew up without fathers…" I mean....there's consistency! She was also saying this **** around the same time Edited May 4 by SmittenCake 16 2 3

spiritboy Posted May 4 Posted May 4 And while Madonna has been working for charity in Malawi what has Gaga done? M has adopted 4 kids and raising them beautifully while raising funds for Malawi what did Gaga do? 6 3 4

YourHonesty Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I knew it was going to be Maverick-related before I even watched the video, but that doesn't change how tone deaf she is about anything even slightly racialized (ESPECIALLY when it comes to black men…) She's obviously not racist. She was out in London during the BLM protests (on crutches at that - a time when most celebrities stopped after posting a black square on ig). But no matter how progressive she's been on so many issues, there will always be reminders that she's a white boomer. 6

In addition to her work with Malawi and literally going through hell to adopt children from there, she was one of the first mainstream popstars to spotlight Black queer artists. In her Blond Ambition tour, Truth or Dare, Vogue video. That was radical back then so her heart was in the right place. At the same time as you said she can be shocking tone deaf at times. 13 2 1

Sugar-Rush Posted May 4 Posted May 4 (edited) That's a very poor choice of words If it had just been one instance of unintentional racism maybe it wouldn't have been that noteworthy, but her usage of the n-word on Instagram a few years ago makes this seem much worse imho Edited May 4 by Sugar-Rush
Littlejfrey Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I'm not trying to defend her or anything (I don't even listen to her music) but this was during the 90's? So like 30 years ago? In the context of today, this would be unacceptable but back on those days maybe she just didn't think it would be understood as we understand it today. Anyway, I prefer to "define" her based on everything that she has done over the years for the LGBT community, than defining her over a comment she made 30 years ago 2

Popular Post Wicked Posted May 4 Popular Post Posted May 4 Having adopted Black children doesn't make you not racist. Joining a BLM protest doesn't make you not racist either this site is filled with such elementary understandings of racism or Anti Blackness it's funny. Only when it comes to defending white women. 11 6 2
modeblock Posted May 4 Posted May 4 (edited) This is blatant racism. I'm sure she thought she ate too, which makes it even more sad. I love her to bits, but this is something I hope she has learned to grow from. Treating people as beneath you in a diva, defiant sort-of-way is something, but to ignore the context of saying that to a black person is inexcusable. It's giving Katy Perry - N in Paris cover energy. Edited May 4 by modeblock 1

Good luck defending that kind of nasty behaviour. Edited May 4 by DaphneGuinness 7
