JayG Posted May 1 Posted May 1 A ******* joke lmao. Just build your own PC and get games for cheaper on Steam. Thats what I did in 2017. Console gaming has been a joke since around 2018. 1 1
JBJT2786 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 The collapse of this industry is coming soon. These companies are getting wayyy to greedy. If it was a new console...I guess but a 5 year old one is wild. 1 1

They've really put their eggs in the software/services basket, which (with how the industry is going) is most certainly the right thing to do. The hike in console prices across the board, and the rise in new game prices is only going to further sell Gamepass to consumers. This is a win/win for Microsoft. And when GTA comes out at $100, Im sure the next Elder Scrolls will follow. 1
Onyxmage Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Meanwhile one of the best games of the year Clair Obscure expedition 33 was only 49.99. These corporations keep shooting themselves in the foot with subpar consoles and games. 1

Eóghan Posted May 1 Posted May 1 3 hours ago, Mattically said: isn't this a direct result of tariffs tho…? edit: okay I see this is a global change, my bad. the previous news I saw they said this is US only. YIKES. you were right in your first sentence, it is the result of the tarifs and the instability of the market WORLDWIDE created by Trump's administration. same reason why Sony increased their prices in Europe to counterbalance the loss they gonna get in the US (their biggest market) because of China trade war. same for nintendo, all the analysts expected around 400 quid for the Switch 2 and in the end it's 450+ because of the unpredictability of the market. 3

If you're only playing PS exclusive titles, then yes, its cheaper. If you are a gaming enthusiast and play cross platform titles AND exclusives, PC gaming can end up being significantly cheaper in the long term when GPU upgrades are on par or better in terms of pricing and performance.

Ironically Microsoft is winning with this game as well as it caused an uptick in Gamespass subs....but charging everything more might kill that momentum.

Im talking about first party games. Microsoft expects people to pay 80 dollars for games like Halo infinite and Starfield and 600 dollars for a console that nobody wants? At least nintendo has the quality to back it up.
commander Posted May 1 Posted May 1 It seems that I'll have to stick to my Nintendo Switch for the foreseeable long future 1

I turned in my old ps5 and got a new ps5 for 128.00 from gamestop last year and extended my console gaming for 5 more years. Not only that but so many PC games are unoptimized MESSES, each game requires different settings, some require specific upgrades. I dont want to have to become some kind of tech wiz just to play a game. Edited May 1 by Onyxmage

Life Savers Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Good thing I bought my PS5 last year before tariffs and Nintendo's antics
Rogue The ATRLer Slayer Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Funny because I was actually debating on getting an Xbox. Welp not now.
Archetype Posted May 1 Posted May 1 (edited) This is criminal. Nintendo and Microsoft should be investigated for price-fixing. I'm sure Sony will jump in now that there's more profit to be made with absolutely zero additional effort. Edited May 1 by Archetype
Starshine Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Is this a last resort to migrate people to Game Pass? This is why I pick and choose carefully with what I spend my $70+ on and I play less than I ever before. You will never see me spending on anything that isn't a 84+ on MC with a few exceptions.

I'm sorry but this is getting out of hand. What is going on with the gaming industry and these big companies? At least they could have dropped a Series X Pro or something to justify it. Mama it's not the gaming industry it's the global economics. Look it up. 1
LustSpell Posted May 1 Posted May 1 (edited) So glad I'm a PC gamer. 5 years, some people already preparing the transition into next gen and we're getting price INCREASES, not decreases. Yikes. Edited May 1 by LustSpell
Tropez Posted May 1 Posted May 1 2 hours ago, 50thStateofMind said: the logic in here it's somehow Nintendo's fault that Microsoft is raising their prices, as if they haven't been planning this for ages. On top of that games were priced at $70 about a year or two ago. What people don't see is that game prices were very deflated for much of the 10s. Games used to cost this must adjusted for inflation in the 90s and 00s.
Rence Posted May 1 Posted May 1 People blaming Nintendo for rising console prices even though we're currently facing a global economic crisis Sony already increased PS5 prices in some countries due to tariffs. Don't be surprised if PC components get affected as well
Bacratto Posted May 1 Posted May 1 I just know they're gonna rawdog us hard the second they announce the GTA 6 release, right alongside a PS5 Pro price increase.
