SCIEL!!!!!!! :jonny5: Already loved her as a fighter, but her story, OMG...

Posted

Just finished act 1.

Spoiler

So I barely just got that bulge swimsuit outfit, and now they killed off Gustave and Verso got Gustave's weapons but the swimsuit outift is GONE????? Is it because my Gustave's died wearing the swimsuit and not another outfit, or it was gonna be gone either way?

Also, some random THOTS and THEORIES I have after finishing act 1. If you're ahead in the story, have a laugh at how far off I am:sabrina:

Spoiler

1. The Paintress is the god of this world.

2. Gustave, Renoire and Verso are related somehow. The only other reason they would all look so similar would be bad character design, and it doesn't make sense because the women manage to look different and not serve same-face syndrome.

3. The Paintress created every creature in the world (Lumiere & continent), we are basically in a moving painting. There is something wrong with some of the creatures, so she tries to fix it by killing off ppl in Lumiere.

4. Ppl going on expeditions feeds the circle of the Paintress k1lling people off in Lumiere.

Ok, I haven't enjoyed turn based combat since Mario and Luigi games, so just for that I declare this Game of the Decade :wanda:

My fav boss fight so far...

Spoiler

The Alicia fight was AMAZING :jonny5:

I was annoyed at first that she would get 3 or 4 turns in a row, but then I realized it's because you are really meant to defeat her by countering. Her combos were so fun to learn to parry!

@Curaga I have arrived at the Forgotten Battlefield and I'm having a mental breakdown - I have no idea how to use the Gradient Counter. I understand it is for when my screen goes gray but the animation seems so wonky I have no idea when I should press the button or not. Any tips?:monkey:

Normally it's best to press R2/RT right away for gradient attacks, like as soon as the screen turns gray. The timing is slightly different for those little guys who do the Mortal Hit gradient attack, so you just have to watch for when they're about to swing, but it's still pretty fast. You'll get it after a few tries!

The gradient counters just depend on the enemy like any other parry, so you just have to time them. They are usually easier than a normal parry imo, but some of them are super hard :doc: There is an enemy later on called an Obscur that has a super delayed gradient attack and it ALWAYS hits me :rip: (but it's kinda low damage thankfully lol)

Thanks. Luckily I got past this region by focusing on damage and healing spells and then I found a healing on kill pictos so that's been helping.

==================

Maelle's VA (Jennifer English ) better snatch a Best Performance nomination from the Game Awards:clap3: They were having her *cry miserably in teenage* every other cut-scene.

Nice! The heal on kill pictos is SO helpful! Love that one

and yes, Jennifer English did an amazing job :jonnycat: The actors in this game really brought it!

nnn I've been wondering if I'll ever play this game again... It is so incredible on this 1st playthrough, but the parry system and the bosses are kind of exhausting :rip: I usually go back to my fav games and replay them, so we'll see...

TABSelle is kinda broken with Fire Weapon Free Aim attacks into Mezzo Forte if you have a tanky boss that makes you have to parry and keep your AP bar full almost every turn:agaycatabra: I'm always into Virtuose stance this way

I unlocked Mezzo Forte but never tried it :rip: Maybe I should try it...

for those battles where your AP is almost always full from parrying, Fleuret Furry is amazing since it's so powerful and keeps you in Virtuose stance :jonnycat:

Also, Virtuose is so hard for me to say in French :skull: I keep just calling it Virtuoso haha

The fact that I almost spent almost an hour and a half on this random ass battle:sabrina:

But Sciel leveled up like 3 times so it was worth it. I have a feeling I was supposed to be a higher level and otherwise it would have proved almost impossible for me on higher difficulties.

Played a bit today. Decided on story mode since I'm playing on Xbox and I haven't used it in ages and the ABXY buttons being the opposite of the Switch is ******* with my brain again, so there was no way of me parrying. However, it is very easy so far which I don't mind much yet since I like the story and music, but I also want something more than a Robert Pattinson simulator. (Wish there were more options to fiddle with)

The other characters you recruit have more complex kits than Gustave (cast elements in a certain order with the mage to get bonuses; fencer has stances that give different bonuses that sync with abilities; etc.) but that might not matter too much on story mode idk

He's so boring, and good luck keeping your perfection ranking up :rip: I can only use him sometimes after finding a weapon that doesn't let him go below rank C

where you have to fight as him with Renoir I was so mad! And earlier when it's just him and Maelle too. It's impossible to dodge so many attacks
