Feanor Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Katy Perry was on top of the world… until she wasn't anymore. They say history keeps repeating itself, and not every newer pop girl will go on to become the new Madonna/Beyoncé/Taylor etc. Some will inevitably be left behind. From this new crop of pop girls, who do you think is most at risk of getting Katy Perry'd?
KatyPrismSpirit Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Sabrina or Dua but I honestly don't wish it on either for them.
Popular Post RideOrDie Posted March 30 Popular Post Posted March 30 wdym? katy is a legend and the #5th best female artist of the century with diamond singles and a diamond alboom, her career is flourishing, she will win a grammy on her next alboom, 143 was a misunderstood masterpiece, teenage dream is the biggest alboom of all time, her vocals never sounded better on her whitney houston covers and she is a brilliant songwriter who penned thinking of grammys when she was just 9 years old. she is still on top of the world as ATRL and twitter can't stop talking about her, so it just confirms she is always and will be relevant! Spoiler doja/dua 19
Popular Post Pluto6 Posted March 30 Popular Post Posted March 30 (edited) Let them first have a huge career like Katy, before we start using her as an example. Being the "Katy" of a generation means that you're most likely going to be one of the biggest female artists of all time Edited March 30 by Pluto6 5 12 1
eclipsed Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Dua is the obvious choice here. One of Katy's major issues was her music being made for radio and relying on the gp to make it a hit by doing that she neglected building up as strong as a fanbase as her peers did at the time. I feel the same about Dua but Dua probably has half the amount of fans or even less than Katy got during her peak 9
chaklux Posted March 30 Posted March 30 (edited) All except Sza and Billie Ellish . They are the ones that I think have been able to establish solid fanbases outside of GP. Edited March 30 by chaklux 5
MonsterNavy Posted March 30 Posted March 30 sabrina's album is even more basic than teenage dream and prism so she better watch out 6 6 2
Aston Martin Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Katy's two problems were image during Witness + not building a larger core fanbase at her peak. So keeping that in mind: Sabrina's built a fanbase but her image has started to get a bit of backlash. She has time to fix this though. Her next album just has to change it up image wise. Dua's image is fine, but she didn't build as large of a core fanbase as her peers. That could be a problem if the hits dry up. But I don't foresee her getting a public backlash anytime soon (plus she does well with touring too). Doja had image problems from pissing off her fanbase, but they didn't stop PTTR and Agora Hills from smashing. She's been pretty low key since though and I don't think any of that will follow her into Vie. Her range in terms of genres will serve her well too. So a few artists could end up with that fate, but I think it's fixable in all cases as of right now. And no one can predict the future anyways. 4
Jay07 Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Sabrina if she keeps up the cringy overtly sexy stuff. Dua is already a pandemic throwback, no idea why people keep mentioning her. 5 3 1
XVIIII Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Katy Perry severely declined because she just got cringe af and continued to double down on the cringe when it was clearly hurting her. In terms of cringe, Chappell seems to be the one most likely heading that direction. 1
Peak Now Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Gonna be slightly edgy and say Doja. Her album sales aren't really indicative of her having a large fanbase, and some might remember Attention (a lead single) flopping...

Yet 2 singles off of RO are still consistently doing 1M daily streams… and yet she has sold out the entire Asian leg of the RO Tour.. and yet she is touring stadiums. Whew so much for a pandemic throwback act! OT: None. All of Gen Z's girls have more class than Katy. 5
Windy Day Posted March 30 Posted March 30 n one mentioning chappell but even though i like her, her music is pretty boring and she needs to have a serious plan to reinvent herself. however i dont think she particularly cares about huge mainstream success so she won't suffer like katy did
Wicked Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Whoever's the most artistically bankrupt. So idk why y'all saying Sabrina.
Solaria Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Just now, Wicked said: Whoever's the most artistically bankrupt. So idk why y'all saying Sabrina. I don't think Sabrina will get Katy'd but she can't keep up her current shtick for another two albums. And it's too early in her career to tell whether she can evolve her sound or not. She can easily fall into the same lane as Dua is right now where her catalogue is adored and her ability as a live performer is respected, but new music might not necessarily smash as hard as the last project. 1

She's incredibly talented but seems to have no loyal fanbase. 1 1
