Future Lover Posted March 29 Posted March 29 I really thought she was gonna have her breakthough when she released this bop Why did the GP failed to Ms. Kiyoko? Was it racism, homophobia or was the material just not strong enough? 2
SweetTalker Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Idk but she released one of the best pop songs of the decade and she was paid dust 5 1
BlahBlahBlah Posted March 29 Posted March 29 She had a pretty substantial following on Tumblr, but yeah she never was able to have a breakout moment. (I don't think she has a Hot 100 entry at all?) The Citrine EP is an absolute favorite of mine but her Sophomore album she put out in 2022 is incredible. Pure 2010s pop throwback in the best way. 1
YourFavoriteWeapon Posted March 29 Posted March 29 (edited) Her debut album was pop excellence with plenty of potential smashes like Feelings, Curious, and He'll Never Love You, but her label failed to properly promote her that era and it went pretty under the radar outside of her niche fanbase. After that, she took over four years to release a follow-up and the follow-up in question was mid as **** and only hurt her career even more. Now, it seems like artists like Chappell Ronan and girl in red took her place as the top WLW/sapphic artists and there's no room for her anymore. Also I hate to bring this up as an example because it feels rude but I feel like her severe weight gain might've played a role too Edited March 29 by YourFavoriteWeapon
teresaguidice Posted March 29 Posted March 29 curious definitely sounds like one of those anonymous songs that randomly has 2B streams on spotify. i think it was probably mishandled. 2
GentleEarthquake Posted March 29 Posted March 29 she could never reach the heights of her debut album 1
playboi Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Her last album had some cute songs tbh, I loved underground and for the girls
Bussea Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Her debut album was lowkey her peak + she never seemed to really capitalize off of her hype. she actually deserved to be a bigger artist idk. 1
ChooseyLover Posted March 29 Posted March 29 (edited) Her song with Kehlani is such a bop. I'd say it's a mix of all the potential reasons you listed. But artists with much weaker material blow up every day so... It all really comes down to promotion and having a label that believes in you or just being lucky enough for your stuff to get viral on TikTok. We live in depressing times. Bloodflowers. Posted March 29 Posted March 29 She focused too much on dictating how bisexual women experience love rather than making another masterpiece such as her artistic peak Girls Like Girls 1
americanlife Posted March 29 Posted March 29 She doesn't have the pop star vibe at all. She gives pop star who gets 50k retweets on a music video clip from Twitter saying "yeah she ATE gagged the chile tea finna" but doesn't chart anywhere 2
