Sam Smith is underappreciated.

the amount of bops they've given us.... we should spend more time appreciating artists like them instead of dragging Katy. what do you guys think about their music? I think they're at least at icon status.

Exactly, but at the end of the day, they're still pretty successful that can still bring in numbers with the many hits they have throughout their career and successful albums to back to up, Gloria still managed to be eligible Platinum in the USA, despite everything..

There still gathering an healthy amount of daily Spotify listeners at #36 with 54M listeners, Gloria is was misstep that Sam is currently trying to remedied, and I think they can achieve.

One of the weirdest catalogs and career trajectories in recent pop history tbh

"Kids Again" should have been a classic.

I kinda want them to go full out one more time and create an I am...Sasha Fierce kind of double album. Just one disc with what people call 'the old' Sam Smith and one disc with hot sweaty pop songs and club ready bangers. I feel Sam has showed some of that but they could take it further

And that's why I stan Sam, and they have stated of wanting to try many genres in one album so they don't feel their not trapped in a box, Sam has touched upon, R&B, Pop, Dance-Pop, Disco, Hyper Pop, Soft Rock, Dancebeat, Synth Pop esc

Sam way more than a balladeer, it's just the ballads are the their bread & better to most people but they shown their versatility in many variations,

(below is strictly my personal opinion)

I feel like they're fairly rated.  I don't think anything they've released from their catalog has been extraordinary.  Stay With Me and all the subsequent ballads from In the Lonely Hour and The Thrill of It All are GOOD but pretty run of the mill, maybe even boring at their worst. I go back to other artists for my ballad fix moreso than any of Sam's.

Dancing With a Stranger & How Do You Sleep are the best things Sam has done as a lead, but the rest of Love Goes was kinda disjointed & more of the same so-so. I feel like the album was disjointed. Same with Gloria. Unholy being their biggest hit in modern times is kind of a shame - I don't think that song is that good.

Their best song ever & the only song that really gets me excited to listen to even to this day is when they were a feature - Latch.

Overall I feel like Sam has yet to release an album that I think is really amazing or influential.

Sam is great. Some gays drag queer artists for not being "perfect" but turn around and stan the most basic pop girls DOWN.

This has got to stop.

I actually agree on the influential part, I feel Sam's artistic persona & talent is more influential compared to the actual work, if that makes sense.

Oh, I'm sorry I had to reread the OP to realize you were talking about his pronouns and not just being a dick and correcting someone's grammar/misusage of there/their/they're.

I have the most utmost respect and camaraderie for the trans people in my life and the community I didn't realize my ignorance glossed over me since I know how prevalent misgendering is to trans people

i never understood their appeal. i found their early career ballads to be very boring and their newer material is kinda just there... i didn't hate Vulgar, In The City, or I'm Not Here To Make Friends, but they weren't remarkable either. Unholy is catchy I guess

the only song i have ever truly enjoyed from them was La la la, and even that is not something i revisit. i would like to like Sam more because i think it's cool to see a queer artist achieve mainstream success, but their music just doesn't click with me
