Lucky should've been the highest Oops! single (#2)

Break the Ice should've been the highest Blackout single (#1)

You Drive Me Crazy should've been the highest BOMT single

Everytime should've been the highest In the Zone single

That would've been an epic top 4!

Thank you so much for hosting @Saddy

Stronger and Piece Of Me making the top 10? We cheer! :clap3:

We won't be discussing y'all's tastelessness in the rest of this rate, though. :coffee2:

Break The Ice not in top 3, not top 5 or EVEN top freaking 10?

Comments:

gagacasanova: Her best lead single. The ultimate **** pop anthem. 6 year old me was SHOOKETH.
PopMusicJunkie: The blueprint for going from Disney to sex siren.  So many iconic moments associated with this one to name. Perfect choice as the lead.
Rev8: this is the moment the whole industry realized she was That girl and that she was creating history up to that moment. I can only imagine the moment that it would've been if it was during the streaming era
°ColdFire°: One of the most unique sounding songs. Such a sonic change from Oops!...I Did It Again to this. THE MOMENT!
Schami66: I learned to like this song over the years but it was never one of my ultimate faves like (i believe) it is for many other fans of britney
Conker: Had a Hit Clip of this back in the day.

(You Drive Me) Crazy

Score: 8.87

High score11

prézli, gagacasanova, Fweaky, prettyinpink940, Quicksand
Low score4

Comments:

Prézli: IS FOR THE STOP! REMIX, THOUGH.
PopMusicJunkie: The "Stop! Remix" is definitely the better version and would have gotten my 11 here. "Making The Video"  made me a stan.
Rev8: such a banger, Definitely deserved much more success (even tho it was a hit already)
°ColdFire°: This version is cute. The 1999 Billboard Music Awards made me like this version, but the Stop remix is miles superior.
PokiTails: Remix outsold but this is cute
Schami66: I think this song stands in the shadow of BOMT but I like it even more.
ChooseyLover: I'm giving it a 10 for the Stop! Remix.

Comments:

Prézli: Why does she hate it? :(
gagacasanova: This should've been a single in the US.
PopMusicJunkie: For those that can relate, trying to watch this video using dialup was hell.  Pop perfection and I love the slight key change here.
confide in me: The best single from this album, hands down
°ColdFire°: The European classic!
PokiTails: Just to show you how much I CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAREEEEEEEE oh yeah yeah oh yeeeaaah
Schami66: This song is such a classic. Her vocals here are beautiful.
ChooseyLover: Someone on last.fm about this song: "TW: emotional dependency" and that's what the lyrics are rather than "antifeminist" as I've seen some people claim. It's beautiful, nostalgic and the single that went away in the US. Sonically it's aging gorgeously.
Conker: So good.

Comments:

Hyunnie: I'd rank it higher but its most likely going to be Top 3 so
gagacasanova: talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, **** on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it.
PopMusicJunkie: The Kiss hype died down.  MATM flopped.  She got married in Vegas for 55 hours.  The world was saying she was over.  She had one shot.  It's a song & video that deserves every bit of critical acclaim.
kataraqueen: Diamonds glued onto her naked body. A movie director hired by Britney, and given instructions by her to give us the best pop song and video of all time. The airplane scene being filmed in one take, the backhand spring... No one was safe. A song so good they gave her back her rights to be on the radio. Now THAT'S a legend
Rev8: Kingney . This was truly the Peak . Even her biggest haters turned their head to look and see this masterpiece. Arguably the moment she became a Legend and respected certified.
holyground13: It's in my top 5 of her discography but it's not getting an 11 from me because of its general popularity - but what a track. It's quite an odd song too - super fast tempo and string samples in an electronic pop production. But it's awesome and proves that Britney was cutting edge in knowing that this should be the second single off In The Zone. And as we know every second of the video is iconic and might be her best video of all.
°ColdFire°: Her best song, period.
PokiTails: I still remember the day this was played for the very first time on the radio. Was my first time ever at a hotel (well, actually it was a motel but I was very impressionable at the time so it felt fancy to me) and we were already at the Nelly_Furtado_Parking_Lot.WAV when this came up but stayed in the car to listen all the way. Most recently heard this play at a Halloween block party in 2024 and everyone was bumpin like it was that very day in 2004. Super cool.

Comments:

gagacasanova: She deserved to SMASH
PopMusicJunkie: The Darkchild Remix video is a moment and probably serves her best looks. But the song is so well-crafted and performed.
kataraqueen: Her best song. This is the #1 for me. I didn't give it an 11 because I know it's gonna do well and I wanted my baby Lonely to do well. But if I had to introduce someone to Britney, show them her legacy, show them everything there is to her, I'd show them the Darkchild remix music video. Never been done before, never will be done again.
PokiTails: Sicker than the remix
Schami66: Another Max Martin classic. The video is so beautiful.
Conker: 11. 11. 11. 11. 11. 11. Britney was the real deal here with this classic. 11 for that full choreography video on YouTube. Amy Rose likes this one.

Comments:

gagacasanova: Her best song.
PopMusicJunkie: Three things come to mind:  Sex Kitten Britney. Independent Britney. Rocker Britney (2001 AMA Performance).
Rev8: how did they decide to start the song like that..
holyground13: It deserves an 11 as it's in my personal top 5 Britney songs but I need to be a little more choosey as I know this is a very popular song - but wow. It never fails to genuinely make feel strong and powerful. And that video… young Joseph Khan was so at the top of his game. The colour scheme and sets are awesome and the climax heading into the final chorus - what a fantastic visual aid to match that key change and epic final chorus. One of the best pop songs and videos ever.
°ColdFire°: This is the peak pop music. The first three OIDIA singles are just smash after smash after smash.
Ewan Chaos: One of the best "stop" and then a stop happens moments in music
PokiTails: In the Director's Cut of Sonic 3 there's unused footage with this track as a music video for Shadow. Source: Me.
Schami66: I love how this quotes BOMT. This song is amazing.
Conker:  STRONGER THAN YESTERDAY. PREACH IT.

YOU ALL DESERVE TO GO TO HELL FOR THESE WHACKINGS

Posted (edited)

I mean....Slave 4 U at #20? BFFR she deserved to be in the top 5.

Toxic at #6... ******* DISGUSTING. Deserved top 3. If you're gonna sabotage, don't even bother sending in a ballot.

Crazy & Born To Make You Happy deserved top 10.

Some of these had no business being in the top 20.

The winner... super obvious. But congrats to her. Stronger should have won, though.

Overall happy with the results.

There were some interesting choices made throughout... But overall was rooting for Gimme More to take the crown :alexz:

Slave is okay, but it's elevated by the video imo.

I used to LOVE Everytime back in the day but it got played out to me.

The opposite happened with 3. Did not like it all upon release, now I love it.

I'm very surprised BOM and Womanizer are not in the top 10.

Crazy (Stop Mix) is one of the best teen pop songs ever.

Born To Make You Happy is well arranged, as typical of a Martin track in that era, but the lyrics are kinda cringe.

Circus deserved top 10. Wtf. It's 2nd best title track.

Break The Ice missing the top 10 is also a choice.

I love Do Somethin' but really did not expect it to be 10. Pleasant surprise.

And Then We Kiss is hands down the best unreleased/bonus track of her career. Why didn't this make In The Zone in place of several other tracks is beyond me.

My Prerogative is a little high but it is her best cover.

Piece of Me is kinda overrated.

HA, Toxic not winning??? I'm shocked but as iconic as it is, I'm not opposed to such a swerve.

Overprotected is great but too prescient.

lol not Baby being out too. Another genius track.

Stronger and Oops... are strong tracks though I don't think they should be higher than Baby and Crazy.

Gimme More was such a watershed single, for both pop culture and her career.

great #1, but i'm also not happy with how it wasn't specified which version of you drive me crazy we were voting for. i followed the album tracklist so i didn't think it was the music video version, so i gave it a really low score. it would have been a 9 otherwise! same with and then we kiss! oh britney, the confusing and enigmatic legend that you are :gaycatney6:

WHAT??? I'm raging… this is one of her classics, meanwhile some random flops are still in because ya'll don't want singles to make it far? The nerve of anyone to give this a 0, did that user rate anything higher than that??

Comments:

PopMusicJunkie: While JT was playing up being the wounded Romeo, she offered something that was much more mature.  Her best ballad.
Suilen: Timberlake is garbage
Rev8: This was about the baby and none can tell me otherwise. Annet artani can **** right OFF
holyground13: This song is one of the most precious, gorgeous songs of all time. Easily in my Britney top 10 songs and is a heartwrenching ballad amongst some of the best bops of all time.
PokiTails: Instrumental is a straight up horror track that you'd expect to hear in a save room in a Resident Evil game.
Schami66: this is peak Britney. this song really takes my breath. It's so beautiful.
Conker: A breathtaking music video where Britney dies drowning while bleeding on the back of her head.

Overall I'm happy with the #1 pick, Gimme More deserved :1stplace:

this rate was strange though, the constant 0's and 1's from some users like why even participate? :what: Do Somethin, ATWK, Overprotected, My Prerogative in the top 10? just random, I rebuke it!

Comments:

Prézli: HER BEST SONG EVERRRR. (Which was officially released.)
PopMusicJunkie: Her first real proper club banger, while all of her songs can be of course, but this one hits differently.  Just literal perfection.
Suilen: who cares what Keri Hilson said about Beyonce when she made this bona fide classic
kataraqueen: The ice crunching demo lives rent free in my mind. I've never been able to chew on ice without thinking of that since. A catelogue highlight. Insanely cool music video concept... Basically Mona Lisa
Rev8: Also used to love it.. now I don't really see the appeal that much. The anime video is a Banger tho! That art style too :flame: she had taste
Schami66: even the song itself sounds icy. I love it.
Conker: Too short to have an everlasting effect. Cold agenda to say but, I'm sorry.
