i think so, there's really nothing unique about it - just post actual links to news stories and encourage people to read actual articles instead of reacting to just a headline.

The biggest threads on this website gets 10s of thousands of views. Considering most other forums/subreddits are implementing similar bans, it will achieve making a dent in the website's traffic.

 

Being principled isn't about patting yourself on the back either, it's about being true to your beliefs.
