prézli Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) This thread is about artists who were dropped by label, but decided NOT to go independent, so left the music industry instead. - Managed by Black Eyed Peas' manager (when BEP were huge in 2009), signed with Interscope, but never tried to break through in the US. She came back last year after a 10-year hiatus, but nobody was here for her anymore. Edited 5 hours ago by prézli
heckinglovato Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) The thread title and actual post are talking about different things You can give up without being dropped by your label (Rihanna, Selena, etc) Edit: ok I see the title changed - I guess Lauren Jauregui Edited 4 hours ago by heckinglovato 1
Solaria Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago She doesnt fit the description in the OP but Rina Sawayama is the best example of an artist that just gave up. It's quite sad actually because she had TONS of potential but she ruined a lot of things for herself by just lying and being hypocritical.
ChooseyLover Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Christina Milian was dropped by Def Jam and honestly she was my favourite of her era. I love her tone, she's gorgeous, she makes good music and she can actually write Pop hits. Doesn't sit right with me the fact that she moved on and is doing Christmas movies now but what can you do? Then Joanna Pacitti comes to mind as well. She was dropped by Geffen Records. She has the looks of Katy Perry and the Broadway background but her bad luck was to be studied. Every door just shut down in front of her since she was a kid. Now they're both family wives with ordinary lives. 1

Her second album (which many gays love), underperformed and Polydor lost faith in a third. Marriage and children was a later chapter. Edited 4 hours ago by Dante Silva

She said Matty Healy owned her masters when in reality he only has a 4 % stake in the label that owns her masters. She then also put Matty on blast for being racist (this was around the same time all the stuff about him with Ice Spice was coming out and he was dating Taylor). But then she turned around and collaborated with Paris Hilton who is notorious for contiously saying the n-word, and saying that she would never date Black men because she finds them 'disgusting' 1

How did Rina give up when she literally just took a year off after touring for 2 years straight and released a couple collabs just a few months ago. 1
holyground13 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Samantha Mumba is a great example of this. She is from the same city as me (Dublin) and I've heard people say it was refreshing for them to see a pop star who was fully in pop music and also was black. She had #1 hits in many western countries with Gotta Tell You (U.S. #4) and Always Come Back To Your Love in 2000 - which are great pop songs, and released what was meant to be the lead from her second album in 2002 which was titled I'm Right Here. It's a good song and went to #5 in the U.K. but somehow that wasn't good enough for the label so they dropped her right away and there was no second album. From there she essentially moved on completely from music other than a few sporadic singles over time. Maybe her heart wasn't truly in music or artistry other than it being just a job that she enjoyed while being a young adult, but she has talent and had a great debut era so it's a shame that it didn't flourish much further, especially for me as we share the same nationality.
