Why does everyone pretend we don't have a main pop boy?

The Weeknd is CLEARLY the main pop boy of the 2010s and 2020s. He might not be a traditional performer like Michael, Justin Timberlake or Usher was but he's by far the most succesful male pop act of the current age. His music has only gotten progessively poppier as his career went on :deadbanana2:and Blinding Lights is bigger than MPG song as well.

Like, how is THIS catalogue not MPB material:

Exactly, Troye Sivan literally exists.

Aside from Love Me Harder, I genuinely do not like his music or anything about him.

You know how many convos I've seen on here and in the stan world in general that we haven't had a ''main pop boy'' since Timberlake :deadbanana2:

It's time for a new pop boy to emerge and serve female pop level of success, because yeah we have The Weeknd but beside him the other ones are lazy and act strangely and don't focus on making good stuff (good music, visuals, tours, etc)

For me he (and every other man smashing these past few years) don't feel like MPBs even if they technically are and have all that chart success and acclaim to back them up. I feel the same way about many MPGs. :bird:

For me a Main Pop Artist ALSO has to be the epitome of POP through their music and be top notch ENTERTAINERS (and when that misses, a charming personality and star quality is seriously needed). That's why artists like Abel and Ed Sheeran don't fit the bill and Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars do.

I feel like it's basically because his last huge hit as a solo/lead artist was a few years ago now, and with men in pop music, attention span in online spaces can be short. Dawn FM also just did "fine," and it's sort of easy to miss that The Highlights is quietly stomping (especially in markets like the UK). If the new album smashes, people will "remember" again, I guess.

Of course, I think that in spaces like pop stan forums, there are other factors at play regarding how "pop" is subconsciously defined as being a largely feminine thing, and even further socio-cultural factors.

I think atrl just doesn't care about men (besides sexually)

Bruno is going to outperform the rest of the boys. Him being incredibly selective with output has helped immensely in the streaming era.

After Hours til Dawn Tour is one of the best pop shows I've ever been to. He's underrated as a singer, performer and entertainer.

He's definitely massive and underrated (success wise, personally I don't get his music) but he's mostly overlooked due to staying out of drama/the tabloids, etc.

Hmmm

Weeknd

Bruno

Bad Bunny

Drake

JB to an extent

Are MPBs.

he's been tanking 2 albums in a row now

Bruno Mars is the biggest one.

Bruno Mars says hi

There's multiple. Lol.

This site ain't really that reflective of these guys perception. And they are just as discussed online as "MPG"s and even more at times, people's algorithms are warping their sense of reality.

The Weeknd is one of the biggest names in music period.

once you get over 30 you are no longer eligible for pop "boy" status :sorry:

Bieber is the only mpb there. And he is actually missed by the public now so when he comes back for the first time in 4 years it's gonna be huge

Literally saw this tweet right after closing this thread:deadbanana2:

Anyways, there are definitely male stars that can be considered MPBs. I just find that gay men don't often check for them or even like them outside of their hot bod (if they even have that, which shouldn't be required to be successful).
