Am I the only one who thinks if DWAS was Gaga's solo song, it would also be a smash?

It would have still been successful, but it is impossible for it to have the same success it has currently. It would lose Bruno's fanbase and popularity, which are both huge. On top of that, it would be removed from Bruno's Top Songs, the This Is Bruno Mars playlist, the Bruno Mars Complete Collection playlist, etc. which all have significant impact on a song's performance.

Just like removing Lady Gaga would have a massive negative impact on the song's performance, removing Bruno Mars would be a terrible move.

DWAS's massive Spotify run has been bolstered by Indonesia and Philippines whose have contributed to even 40% of its total daily streams (at peak). Those 2 countries adored Bruno and he just had some massive stadium concerts there. Removing Bruno means removing those 30-40% streams as well. Not to mention Brazil where Bruno also toured recently

Bruno also had the #1 song of the decade here in the U.S. and is the only artist to take that spot from Mariah Carey since her debut (Mariah had 90s and 00s and will get the 20s, too).

I just don't understand anyone who claims you could remove an artist from a song and it would still have the same results, especially in the streaming era.

the song would still do well though

2 minutes of silence at the start of any track is going to cause it to bomb.

Gaga can't carry a ballad solo lmao. That Always Remember song was a fluke and was riding the coattails of Shallow/ASIB.

Gaga's songwriting is what carried it, not a coincidence every ballad she's ever released as a single became a classic. It's so transparent why a certain base is foaming at the mouth to tear Gaga down over this, some girls make songwriting their whole brand and won't ever have a truly classic ballad outside of their cult.:rip:

Did she even write any of it? nothing about the lyrics or melody screams GaGa

Everybody involved credits Gaga with coming up with the song. The chorus lyrics give Bruno and that's about it. Everything else is unmistakably Gaga to everybody who isn't an OGH. Bruno is a tremendous songwriter in his own right but this one wasn't him. His iconic vocal delivery pulls some weight too but the main driving force of this instant classic was Stefani's pen, as per usual. :cm:

I was thinking recently about how songs like this, Shallow, Always Remember Us This Way, and a ton of other sonically similar songs she has is actually what the general public seems to gravitate towards when it comes to her the most following the success of Million Reasons. I do think it would have smashed if Bruno was not on the song, because this is the kind of song that I think people want to hear from her the most.

Do you mean the song she promoted everywhere for a year and was on discount for twice as much?

There's no evidence to support that claim.

It doesn't work because Bruno wrote and came up with the song and Gaga only jumped in and finished it.

She tried similar things with Happy Mistakes and the result is day and night

Happy Mistake was Bloodpop's project in the first place. The way yall twisting anything just to cope lol.

Gaga wrote dwas, perfect it, and she credited first, released under her label. Deal with it.

And it's Gaga's little dance in the video that makes DWAS went viral..
