I think it's a coincidence that her songs that recently hit number 1 are all duets. I'm sure if Gaga was alone on this song, it would have been just as successful.

 

By the way, I would have loved a version of the song where Bruno Mars is replaced by Joe Calderone, her alter ego, and he would have been in the music video. 

 

I think that Gaga is cursed since 2011. She is so talented and deserves better.

I dunno if it would have been the gigantic smash like it is now, because her and Bruno´s chemistry (both in the song and in the video) definitely helped a TON with it's popularity, but it definitely would not have been a flop either. It would've done much better than Disease.

I don't think so. Gaga wouldn't have mastered the melody as it is, just based off of her other ballads, and Bruno is kind of the highlight vocally throughout the track. It works as a duet together.

Gaga's songwriting is what carried it, not a coincidence every ballad she's ever released as a single became a classic. It's so transparent why a certain base is foaming at the mouth to tear Gaga down over this, some girls make songwriting their whole brand and won't ever have a truly classic ballad outside of their cult.

DWAS is a cute song but it 100% sounds like a Bruno Mars song. I think it could have done fine if it was just Gaga but certainly not as big as it currently is. Let's be real, the fact Bruno's on it and that it's a male/female duet is helping a lot.

DWAS probably, realistically, wouldn't have worked with either Gaga or Bruno solo. Gaga's role is pretty much interchangeable whereas Bruno is integral to the song and its success, though.

It's not unreasonable to think that the success of this collaboration is bolstered by the fact that this is Bruno's first non-Silk Sonic 'comeback' single since 2016. This doesn't minimize Gaga's contributions or talent, but to act like the collaboration didn't benefit from being a collab is moronic.

Gaga is a legend and absolutely has nothing to prove, but it's this type of hyperbole that gets her base dragged

The 'solo' qualifier only came to be when the Monsters kept antagonizing the Hive with 'nO sOlo HiTs SiNce BuSh AdmInisTraTioN ' and clowning Beyoncé for jumping on hits to get #1s. In my opinion, a hit is a hit but if a certain fanbase formerly set a precedent that only solo hits matter, then they should stand firm in their stance
