the repackaged sticker means it's a store error, so maybe stock was incorrectly sent to that location when it was meant for another store, and in order to clear the excess stock they lower the price.

I don't think this is from a clearance sale. I mean why would they sell the best selling album of the decade so far on clearance sale? Less than a year after it came out. People are clearly willing to pay the regular price for this CD. So this literally makes zero sense.

Correct. Other artists get dragged for the same thing (see examples below) so I don't see how it's any different.
