Ariana's approach to acting is as plastic as it gets. Gaga managed to get some interesting moments here and there.

?? ASIB was not a particularly challenging role to execute, Ariana could have done it.

 

Gaga didn't even do that well, her acting felt weak and wooden during the emotional moments of the film. It was clear that she isn't a particularly strong actor.

Gaga. Ariana was OK as Glinda but too robotic and lacked the spontaneity and annoying, off the cuff personality that Glinda really encompasses. Gaga has shown her acting prowess across film and TV in several roles and her accolades support her quality as an actress.

I feel like I've only seen Ariana do comedy, and most of her characters are in the same vein, I would like to see her do something different, so I'm gonna go with Gaga.

Have not seen Joker but Ariana in Wicked was far better than anything I've seen lady ga ga in so far.

Can't really judge based off of what we've seen from Ari. She's done mainly comedy work

Gaga is the clear winner but tbf we haven't seen if Ari can pull off a dramatic role yet. No current pop girl has been able to do what Gaga did with ASIB, HOG, JFAD

Love Ariana to bits and consider myself a bigger fan of hers, but Gaga's got the better acting chops. This, however, only applies to drama as I think Ariana is miles better as a comedy actress; her comedic timing is great. Though, to be fair, I don't think Gaga's ever dipped her toe into comedy, so we can't really compare there. Then again, Ariana hasn't tackled serious drama either, so it's kind of a wash on that front.

 

On an aside - the one's trying to sell ASIB as this challenging role which only Gaga could've been able to execute …..  chile, she was great but she was literally playing herself

True, as we all know weak, wooden actor always get nominated for Oscars.

Neither are great but Ariana always does the same ditzy high pitched  voice type characters.

I agree with everything in this post.

Ariana's a comedic genius, Gaga has shined so far in drama.

 

Also agree that her role in ASIB wasn't THAT challenging but she did great hence all the awards and nominations. IMO she really showed her chops in House of Gucci and later in JFAD. Sadly the movies were worse than the acting in them.

Well yes, there are MANY examples of weak performances getting nominated for the oscars. Gaga was not the first or the last.
