Solaria Posted yesterday at 12:12 PM Posted yesterday at 12:12 PM Madonna: The blueprint for women in pop music. Nothing more needs to be said. She's the standard. Mariah Carey: Birthed an entire generation of vocally powerful diva's and succesfully pushed a sound that mixed R&B and pop to the mainstream. Whitney Houston: Crossgenerational appeal which was unprecedented for a black female artist. Whitney had a grasp on White Middle America like no other in her field. Janet Jackson: Basically was the starting point for alternative R&B, popularized new jack swing and at one point even outshined Michael in popularity in the 90s. She also has the most insane streak on the Hot 100, with almost all of her songs from Control to Janet. going top 5. Britney Spears: Revitalized teen pop and was the blueprint for so many female popstar in the 2000s. Britney's whole aesthetic is plastered over the 2000s decade. Not just in music but also in film and television. Shakira: Most succesful female Latin artist of all time. Christina Aguilera: She was never afraid to experiment. I think Xtina deserves more praise for taking risks. P!nk: Nothing. Beyonce: The queen. Like what do you want me to say. Her artistic mind is leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of her peers. Beyoncé respects the art and the meaning behind the music and the imagery more than any other. Kelly Clarkson: Good singer. Avril Lavigne: Overrated. Rihanna: Biggest female hitmaker that has ever lived. Taylor Swift: Transformed the music industry and the absolute blueprint for post-millenial music. Unprecedented domination of every single industry metric. Lady Gaga: A quadruple threat. So talented in so many ways. A true artist. Revived the visual aspect of pop music at a time when it was at it's lowest. Her run from Just Dance to Alejandro shook the industry. Katy Perry: Teenage Dream was a pop culture moment. Can't ever be denied. Nicki Minaj: Queen of Rap. Adele: Extreme crossgenerational appeal. Everyone adores Adele. 21' sales are monstrous. Lana Del Rey: Changed everything. I don't think I have to explain this one. Lana's sound and aesthetic has been copied to death. Billie Eilish: Became the face of Gen Z pop. It's insane because everyone dresses like her nowadays. Lorde: Mother. Dua Lipa: Revived dance-pop and synth-pop during a time where it seemed impossible to do so. Future Nostalgia is gonna be a classic record when all is said and done. It will always be that record that gave people refuge and escapism during the pandemic. Liv: Understands teen angst like no other. Such a talented songwriter. 11 1

ChooseyLover Posted yesterday at 12:18 PM Posted yesterday at 12:18 PM Xtina made two worlds collide: she proved you could be a blonde pop star pushing sex appeal like Madonna while also being a revered vocalist like Whitney. Britney paved the way for young pop female solo acts, a road that was later continued by her peers and other major pop stars like Gaga, Kesha, Katy. Aaliyah, despite passing away just in 2001, is the blueprint for many R&B girlies today, who sample her songs, mimick her fashion and/or get direct inspiration from her sound; whether that be ballady like Age Ain't Nothing But a Number tracks, groovy midtempos a la Timbaland/Missy or a genre-bending sound like the Red album. 1

Nico Robin Posted yesterday at 12:26 PM Posted yesterday at 12:26 PM (edited) P!nk: Revolutionized live performances with aireal segments that no one really dares to copy. Doing all that while singing completely LIVE (her whole career). She also pioneered pop/rock in the early-mid 2000s for females enjoying international success with sold out tours Edited yesterday at 12:29 PM by Nico Robin 3

RideOrDie Posted yesterday at 12:43 PM Posted yesterday at 12:43 PM some of you really just be saying anything to make your faves look better than they are there's only a very few names on that list who genuinely brought something new to the table in terms of shifting the industry and being trendsetters, there are a bunch of good names who brought their own flavour and brand to set themselves apart in an already existing foundation, and there are the ones who were just riding the waves and was only a face for faceless hits. i will let y'all figure out who falls into which of these 3 categories. 2 1

PMM Posted yesterday at 01:23 PM Posted yesterday at 01:23 PM (edited) i think gaga shifted focus on an artist. before her people wanted to know about personal life, what's going on behind the scene e.g. britney, but when gaga came up the only question was "what is she gonna do next? what about her next look?" i know this is also thanks to social media but gaga imo was the first one to shift the focus from personal life to artist (work that they do) edit: oh wait, she also bring fashion into pop music business nicki - showed that hip hop culture can be fun and colorful britney - she is the og perfect formula for pop star, they tried to copy her but failed everytime that's all when it comes to their first eras Edited yesterday at 01:26 PM by PMM
Stankonia Posted yesterday at 01:24 PM Posted yesterday at 01:24 PM Diana and Janet: Literally too many things to list. I wouldn't know where to begin. 3

Comedor Posted yesterday at 01:32 PM Posted yesterday at 01:32 PM Beyonce - songs with political themes (feminism and black empowerment) - top quality performances (skills and production) - fun and bold choreography - visual albums - surprise drops - fast singing - no traditional promo, use of her own platforms instead (many have followed, very rare to see MPGs doing interviews or TV appearances in general) 1

Doing all that while singing completely LIVE (her whole career). She also pioneered pop/rock in the early-mid 2000s for females enjoying international success with sold out tours LA Times (2003): Pink stood up for her music, broke the music industry's mold and scored a breakout hit, challenging a school of teen singers to find their own sounds as well. Pink also started a race among other teen pop stars like Christina Aguilera to add substance to their own sound. LA Times (2010): Her mix of rebellion, emotional rawness, humor, and infectious dance beats created a model for the mashup approach of latter-day divas such as Katy Perry, Kesha, and Rihanna. Entertainment Weekly (2013): She essentially invented the whole modern wave of Pop Diva Domination: You can draw a straight line from "Get This Party Started" to Katy Perry, Kesha, pre-messianic Lady Gaga, and post-weird Rihanna. She remains the P!nkprint for all the unconventional, non-cookie cutter mpgs 2
