Why aren't men in Islam expected to wear hijab, burqa, niqab or similar coverings?

No offense, but you're on ATRL, where most of us are atheists, or at the very least don't belong to an Abrahamic religion. So, naturally, we all think it's a made-up religion from hundreds of years ago, written by men. This type of question would only make sense to ask a religious Muslim person if you're looking for a metaphysical or spiritual reasoning for it. I don't understand why you're asking here.

I actually don't think most girlies are actually atheist and are largely just "secular" aka 'culturally Christian atheists,' however you want to splice it.

Like as a ten-toes-down atheist, if you put a gun to my head, I'm being honest and clear that no religion makes sense. It's all shades of illogical. Like I wish I could convince myself to believe in the idea of religion since being able to do so seems so simple and nice, but ultimately, it just reads goofy to me.

But that means I then find everything that tries to use the idea of supernatural thought as its justification to be just as silly. Imperialism. Western supremacy. Misogyny. Cisheteronormativity. Etc.

Some of these girlies aren't REAL atheists they way they try to dig their heels in and defend some idea of """the West""" as inherently more virtuous or better than """the East""".

A real atheist wouldn't care enough to defend """the West""" as a construct. I actually don't think you can be an atheist and not also be a social constructionist.

(The final conclusion of that is that you can't be a true atheist and not be a socialist / Marxist / subscribe to historical material as a science in a way but the girls ain't ready for that.)

It seems less about being woke and more about dishonestly weaponizing gender inequality to bait religious prejudice.

Sexism and misogyny. This is religion after all :suburban:

Because like Christianity, when men were making up what is in the Quran they included misogynistic text because they enjoyed controlling women. Organized religion is mainly a means to control and maintain power.

This strawman fallacy :dies:

In what country in the world is women not covering their breasts considered the norm? This is certainly not an East/West thing.

Read it twice sis, that was literally my point.

To a varying degree all cultures make women cover themselves more than men and the reason behind it is the same. I think it's wrong in all cases, and the degree to which it's wrong also varies depending on the severity of the norms.

I guess all Abrahamic religions have this thing though

All religions are sexist. Don't know why the hyper-fixation on Islam??

Here's an interesting fact for you: the concept of the hijab was not originally introduced for the purpose of modesty, but rather as a way to distinguish free women from slave women. In its earliest context, wearing the hijab signified that a woman was free and under the protection of her family or community, making her off-limits to harassment. By contrast, slave women, who did not wear the hijab, were often viewed as fair game for sexual harassment and mistreatment.

I know sis, i understood what you said.

I was just pointing out that women not covering their breats isnt the status quo anywhere around the world, so using that as an argumentative tool simply doesnt work to make a point about east/west gender politics.
