BrentB Posted Sunday at 02:26 AM Posted Sunday at 02:26 AM What are some songs that you could never seem to finish at first, but you realized years later, upon full listen were actual gems that you robbed yourself of fully experiencing all these years ? I remember literally always not making it past the 2nd chorus of Bloody Mary until I let it play fully through one day... Another recent example, that's not an MPG, is Example's "Changed The Way You Kissed Me." I was only checking for EDM if it was an MPG back in the day. But then I revisited some old 2010-2012 bops & this HIT me like a ton of bricks. Same case but with Swimming Pools (Drank). Especially the single version where the instrumental plays out until the end

Wicked Posted Sunday at 02:34 AM Posted Sunday at 02:34 AM 'Hero' is still a skip but I appreciate it as an AC ballad void of seasoning. This will never apply to the entirety of Music Box, but it's a start.
Attaboy Posted Sunday at 02:40 AM Posted Sunday at 02:40 AM Illicit Affairs. This exact thing happened to me probably 5-6 months after Folklore release and now it is my most played from the album! 1
SoulKiwi Posted Sunday at 02:46 AM Posted Sunday at 02:46 AM Dress by Taylor Swift, the way I despised that song but then the first week of 2024 I gave it a listen randomly and it just clicked 2
Timeless Posted Sunday at 02:52 AM Posted Sunday at 02:52 AM The Tortured Poets Department title track 3
Cruel Summer Posted Sunday at 02:53 AM Posted Sunday at 02:53 AM The biggest example of this for me is Focus by Charli. The beginning portions of the song didn't really click with me at first, and I heavily preferred No Angel, and I never really even listened to the latter half - maybe ever, certainly not very closely. Only many years after release did I realize how excellent the song becomes as it builds, particularly the final minute or so, and how what it builds to kind of became the foundation for the music I love most from Charli - things like Party 4 U, Visions, Gone, really the whole post-Pop 2 Charli universe (besides a good chunk of Crash, and I say post-Pop 2 because it was out already) can trace some very important roots to Focus. It's not quite as foundational perhaps as Vroom Vroom, which has immeasurable impact on not only Charli's work but an entire genre and even mainstream pop, or Track 10 for the particular sound I'm thinking about, but it certainly helped set the stage for a particular brand of Charli/AG collaboration that has carried all the way through Brat. 1
Paparazzaid Posted Sunday at 02:57 AM Posted Sunday at 02:57 AM I used to skip So Happy I Could Die but then I saw the light 1 1
Contessa Posted Sunday at 03:08 AM Posted Sunday at 03:08 AM i used to think this was one of her weakest songs, but it clicked for me a few years ago and while its quite different from the rest of the album i can appreciate the drama of it now when i first got into vespertine years ago i didn't really get undo cuz that opening melody seemed so out of place but now it's my fav on the album. sounds like the warmest hug on the coldest night of winter; i literally shed a few tears every time the choir comes in after the bridge. def in the top 10 songs of all time.

Her most pop/AC album by far, but I can see why it's a classic. Dreamlover, Anytime You Need a Friend (+ remixes), Without You, Now That I Know, All I Ever Wanted, title track. That said, it could have been one of her very best if some of the tracks had been traded out for the b-sides and outtakes. live version of Hero completely eats the studio version 1 1
Jotham Posted Sunday at 03:53 AM Posted Sunday at 03:53 AM I used to not care about this song at all but now it's one of my favorite songs from Lana. That bridge is so iconic.
RoughOperator Posted Sunday at 04:09 AM Posted Sunday at 04:09 AM Staying in Lana territory, one of songs I overlooked the most in my numerous listens of Ultraviolence was Florida Kilos. I've really started appreciating it only the last months, it has a pretty dynamic vibe and its production kind of stands out in that album, Idk why I didn't like it. 1

WalkingOnAir Posted Sunday at 07:09 AM Posted Sunday at 07:09 AM In the early days of Midnights' release, I used to skip YOYOK. Not because I didn't like it, but other songs on the album caught my attention and I left it aside, until one day I listened to it completely and was completely shook. Now it's not only my favorite from the album but it's one of my favorites of all time by Tay
Soda Pop Queen Posted Sunday at 09:26 AM Posted Sunday at 09:26 AM It's certainly not a 10/10 but I don't skip or cringe at Video Phone anymore. The extended remix intro gives it a bit of cinematic feel.
Chemist Posted Sunday at 02:25 PM Posted Sunday at 02:25 PM Pretty much the whole How I'm Feeling Now. I thought it was pure noise and now i find it a 10/10 masterpiece. What was i thinking
