KKCuteCat Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Might be because Ari has never been blackfishing? I just like her look like that and there is nothing wrong with it.
Vermillion Posted January 5 Posted January 5 The attempts or perceived attempts at AAVE were what got and continue to this day to get her backlash across social media, especially in stark contrast to the Audrey Hepburn routine she's currently attempting for the awards circuit. The skin just always came across as a bad tan job as opposed to blackfishing, imho. The cheating scandal (regardless of the poor attempt at damage control by threatening to sue the New York Post so they'd change an article wording on when the separation happened and reframe Lilly Jay as 'crazy') and continued resentment around the perceived excuses on being just a 'thin' body type as opposed to having an eating disorder that's not allowed to be questioned have gotten far more attention up until about a month ago, imho. She's very talented (talent is subjective) with a hellbent stage Mom, powerful team, and built-up goodwill from Top 40 programmers and a lot of black artists (deserved or not, some of the history mentioned here does speak for itself) that's saved her through all of this. 1
Prodigal Self Posted January 5 Posted January 5 What's your deal, anyway? You wanna take Ariana down? That's not happening. Justice for Jesy Nelson? That ain't happening either 7

ChooseyLover Posted January 5 Posted January 5 People keep making jokes about Ariana being transracial () to this day though. And there's an insane and nasty hyperfixation towards her appearance by the GP.
ariananext Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) It's so funny when someone wants to make threads like these but proceeds to use edited pictures. Presenting evidence to back up your point is taught in elementary school or something Ariana was always surrounded and always worked with black artists and producers since her very first hit, her first album was produced by Babyface and majority of her features are black artists, she has always expressed love and been loved by the community, starting with Patti LaBelle who presented her Woman Of The Year during Thank U, Next era calling her "LITTLE WHITE BLACK GIRL" (and she's known her since her teenage years). Thank U, Next, the incriminated era of her life was her being depressed and expressing trauma through music with her friends while getting drunk, if you followed the roll-out you'd know it was basically promoted as a group project, she pretty much did all the promo with her collaborators giving them credits AND a platform for their careers. It's crazy to compare her case to Jesy Nelson's. Ariana's "problematic phase" happened when she was depressed and basically lived with a group of people she started acting like, that would've happened with anybody else. I think she even said once that she absorbs the features of the people around her, just like when she spoke like Pete in that 3 months relationship, acted like Mac when she was with him etc. She's too talented, has a successful career and is pretty respected. Jesy left her group and presented herself as an arrogant who bashed her black friend while stealing her culture, and backed up by one of the most bitter and wicked people in the industry on top of everything. Plus, Ariana stopped the tan and the accent as soon as people started talking about it because it was clear as day that it wasn't intentional and she didn't want to hurt anybody, what did Jessy do? Ariana's case is brought up a lot more too compared to her because she's a nobody and people don't even care about her enough to talk **** about her Edited January 5 by ariananext 7
JT55331 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) Ari is influenced by culture and she grew up in a generation who were obsessed with tanning. That's very different to cultural appropriation. I also think it's rooted in deep insecurity which she has been honest and open about. Her voice evolution is clearly a result of trying to emulate a popstar image and convey something she is not. I actually think in this Wicked era she is returning more to her authentic self and is growing in confidence. More broadly we never learn the lesson that major scrutiny of celebs, especially women, is extremely damaging to their mental health Edited January 5 by JT55331

lauren198 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Jesy got away with it too, for a long time, while she was in Little Mix. But when she left the band the fans were mad at her for leaving and they were the ones who started call her off on it and then she had nobody to defend her and the way she reacted also played a big part 1

Jay07 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) I am a fan but I will admit certain things were problematic about her presentation. The AAVE, the attitude, "gee thanks just bought it". But she is not the first white artist to idolize black culture and try to emulate it and at least she listened to criticism and changed. Now as for the forced moral panic of who she's dating and the attempts to cancel her over appropriation, that's just giving irrational hatred and trying to find excuses to end her. If ******* Chris Brown and Morgan Wallen are still thriving, Ari certainly doesn't deserve to be cancelled. The only people who have truly been cancelled are ones who committed serious crimes like Weinstein, R Kelly and Diddy, not Ariana who had a shade of tan one tone too dark and said gworl and das my cookie, das my juice. Yes, AND Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Didnt she get a lot of backlash for this on twitter during thank you next. Especially that line Black card is my business card ..
WEEKND Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Ariana is skinny and pretty and it's easier to live out our C U N T fantasy with her pretty much she's a better Pokémon to use in battle. 1
bjorn Posted January 5 Posted January 5 21 hours ago, Eternium said: Jesy spent her time feuding with and dragging her black bandmates, which gives off racist vibes. It put her in the same light as Camila Cabello. Ariana had black influences, but she never felt racist because she was always paying her dues. Didn't she have Patti LaBelle perform at one of her birthday parties and develop a strong relationship with her? And she's constantly giving a platform to black artists in incredibly positive ways. If Jesy had spent more time building up black artists instead of trying to tear them down (including the ones that were closest to her), she'd probably have way better reception. End thread.
bjorn Posted January 5 Posted January 5 And btw. Jesy does not possess an ounce of talent Ariana does. Jesy came out from the get go BLACK
