Dante Silva Posted Saturday at 08:44 PM Posted Saturday at 08:44 PM (edited) To not have Donna Summer and Debbie Harry in the 70s is a choice. You should also have Janis Joplin, Mama Cass, Dusty Springfield, Diana Ross for the 1960's. Edited Saturday at 08:52 PM by Dante Silva

A generational approach seems more fitting and rational. (for example Britney and Christina were barely active in the 90s considering they debuted in 1999/1998) With that being said, this is how I personally would organize/categorize them (each generation will only consist of five artists that I think were the zeitgeist of their own generation the most) First generation (obv my knowledge on older divas is very slim so I won't be categegorizing them): • Tina Turner • Cher • Aretha Franklin • Diana Ross • Joni Mitchell (only by my standards) Second generation: • Madonna • Celine Dion • Janet Jackson • Whitney Houston • Cyndi Lauper Third generation: • Britney Spears • Christina Aguilera • Beyoncé • P!nk • Mariah Carey Fouth generation: • Taylor Swift • Lady Gaga • Katy Perry • Rihanna • Adele Fifth and the newest generation: • Olivia Rodrigo • Billie Eilish • Dua Lipa • Chappell Roan • Doja Cat Artists like Ariana, Lana, and Nicki do not belong to any of the generations because they debut or rose to fame between two different generations, or at least that's how I look at it. I think there's merit to this approach rather than by decade. The main reason why I think that is because I think the arrival of three particular pop girls have spear(s)headed their particular generations of pop music (Madonna, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga). These artists' rises were very fast, they're all very pop and controversial and affected everything around them in pop - they influenced similar artists to them and spawned their anthesises. Though there's some ish with that approach because other artists such as Beyoncé, Amy Winehouse and Taylor Swift have had huge impact in pop / culture too. I'd also definitely put Mariah in the second generation if it was by this list^. If I was going by your original list I'd amend it to this but I could be way off: 3 hours ago, goverm3nth0ker said: 70s: Tina, Cher, Aretha, Olivia 80s: Madonna, Janet, Whitney, Paula Abdul, Cyndi Lauper, Kate Bush 90s: Mariah, Celine, Kylie, Alanis, Shakira, Shania, Bjork 00s: Britney, Christina, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Amy Winehouse, Gwen, JLo, Avril, P!nk (maybe Nelly Furtado, Fergie & Kelly Clarkson too) Late 00s: Gaga, Katy, Nicki, Adele, Miley, Taylor, Selena, Demi Late 10s: Ariana, Lana, Halsey, Camila, Dua, Billie, Doja, SZA 20s, Olivia, Charli, Gracie, Sabrina, Chappell Edited Saturday at 08:58 PM by holyground13

I just went ahead and put the decades that were dominated by particular women so you may see one MPG more than once, but here's my list as far as MPG goes. 60s: The Supremes(Diana Ross), Dionne, Aretha, 70's Barbara, Diana, Donna, 80's Cyndi, Madonna, Janet, Whitney, Paula, Tina 90's Mariah, Whitney, Madonna, Celine, 00's Britney, Pink, Christina, Beyonce, Rihanna, Shakira 10's Katy, Gaga, Rihanna, Taylor, Adele 00's Doja, Dua, Billie, Taylor, Olivia, Sabrina, Chappell

Delirious Posted Saturday at 09:45 PM Posted Saturday at 09:45 PM If you're gonna put Lana, Halsey, Camila and Dua as 10s then Ellie Goulding definitely belongs there lol

I'll speak only on what I'm familiar. How do Demi and Selena fit in as MPGs? I can understand Miley after 'Flowers', but not these 2. Selena had cute little musical moments here and there (peaking with her between album droplets imho), but she never seemed to me as someone who DOMINATED the conversation from a musical point of view at any given time (her fame had more to do with her lifestyle business endeavors and she carried that into acting). I don't see Demi at all belonging to the conversation. Same for Halsey (having a fan-base and a few quick little singles doesn't make one an MPG) and Camila Cabello (just the singles). And yes, one can be an MPG without charts criteria, (see Lana), provided they have the necessary cultural influence. Gracie and Chappell (and I guess to a much lesser extent Sabrina) still need more time before we can call them full fledged MPGs.
Alldeezy Posted Sunday at 04:38 AM Posted Sunday at 04:38 AM who TF is Gracie? and way your missing Taylor can hate her but she is one of the biggest female singers of this decade. oh wait i see taylor in 00s tho I think she turned more of a MPG in 10s unless your adding from when they debuted?
