BlahBlahBlah Posted Saturday at 06:12 PM Posted Saturday at 06:12 PM (edited) Paula should be added to the 80s imo Contrary to what others are saying here I actually agree with your 10s and 20s list, monoculture is dead so MPGs have a significantly shorter shelf life, and the 10s girls listed all had at least 2 successful eras. MidnightsAtPeace Posted Saturday at 06:35 PM Posted Saturday at 06:35 PM (edited) I don't think we should be organizing MPGs in terms of the decade they debut or rose to fame. A generational approach seems more fitting and rational. (for example Britney and Christina were barely active in the 90s considering they debuted in 1999/1998) With that being said, this is how I personally would organize/categorize them (each generation will only consist of five artists that I think were the zeitgeist of their own generation the most) First generation (obv my knowledge on older divas is very slim so I won't be categegorizing them): • Tina Turner • Cher • Aretha Franklin • Diana Ross • Joni Mitchell (only by my standards) Second generation: • Madonna • Celine Dion • Janet Jackson • Whitney Houston • Cyndi Lauper Third generation: • Britney Spears • Christina Aguilera • Beyoncé • P!nk • Mariah Carey Fouth generation: • Taylor Swift • Lady Gaga • Katy Perry • Rihanna • Adele Fifth and the newest generation: • Olivia Rodrigo • Billie Eilish • Dua Lipa • Chappell Roan • Doja Cat Artists like Ariana, Lana, and Nicki do not belong to any of the generations because they debut or rose to fame between two different generations, or at least that's how I look at it. like2throw Posted Saturday at 06:37 PM Posted Saturday at 06:37 PM You need to add Cyndi Lauper for the 80s grouping, that's a pretty glaring omission. 1

ericcartman Posted Saturday at 08:05 PM Posted Saturday at 08:05 PM Diana Ross was probably the first MPG by definition If you're including girls like Avril Lavigne, Gwen Stefani, Katie Perry etc then you have to include Paula Abdul, Cyndi Lauper, etc 1 1
modeblock Posted Saturday at 08:24 PM Posted Saturday at 08:24 PM Being an MPG is not just about hits, it needs to be 360 degrees of slayage: you need EVERYTHING!! cultural relevance (impact) chart success (MULTIPLE #1s singles and albums) touring success (demand to tour the globe) established stanbase household name (cross-generational awareness) longevity (at least 4 successful eras) 2 1
ericcartman Posted Saturday at 08:30 PM Posted Saturday at 08:30 PM Honestly just keep it simple and concise Trailblazers: Diana Ross, Cher, Donna Summer, Aretha Franklin , Dionne Warwick The OGs: Madonna, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey The Golden age: Beyonce, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Lady Gaga The new age: Ariana Grande, Billie Eillish, the rest remain to be seen 1
