bielneira Posted Friday at 01:24 AM Posted Friday at 01:24 AM According to AOTY's year-end aggregator, the top 3 songs of last year were more acclaimed than the #1 songs of 2023, 2022 and 2021. What went right in 2024? In comparison, these are the #1 songs of previous years: 2023: Lana Del Rey, "A&W" [26 lists | 137 points] 2022: Steve Lacy, "Bad Habit" [26 litsts | 123 points] 2021: Lil Nas X, "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)" [29 lists | 111 points] 1 1
Illuminati Posted Friday at 01:31 AM Posted Friday at 01:31 AM Less competition maybe, these do stand out amongst everything that was released last year
Into The Void Posted Friday at 01:35 AM Posted Friday at 01:35 AM Didn't even know they had song rankings
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted Friday at 01:46 AM Posted Friday at 01:46 AM People are forgetting just how much the pandemic affected music output not just in 2020 but the following two years as well.

RoseBud Posted Friday at 04:34 AM Posted Friday at 04:34 AM As explained to you before, you can't compare these ratings across years the way you are trying to do it...
Slayn Posted Friday at 04:38 AM Posted Friday at 04:38 AM A&W best song here by far, so rankings void 2
Gerardo Posted Friday at 05:04 AM Posted Friday at 05:04 AM More publications and magazines making lists each year, plus there's a consensus of praise amongst critics for those 3 songs 1

Wicked Posted Friday at 05:51 AM Posted Friday at 05:51 AM The crazy part is AOTY omits a lot of lists, so this isn't even that definitive but yeah, I think music journalism has boomed this year and might continue to get bigger. There's new publications, more critics and the Uproxx Critics Poll (a successor to Pazz & Jop) is gonna get the most submissions ever this year. 2
Blackout2006 Posted Friday at 06:09 AM Posted Friday at 06:09 AM Where can I find the year-end aggregator for songs? (2024 specifically)

They gather reviews from all around the world, which unfortunately makes their list take longer to be posted 1

k4rmabutterfly Posted Friday at 07:24 AM Posted Friday at 07:24 AM Well, 2024 was the best and most exciting year of this decade so far musically so I'm not really surprised.

One discrepancy is boygenius being #1 on AOTY's aggregate but Javelin being #1 on AM.
K$Ellie Posted Friday at 09:48 AM Posted Friday at 09:48 AM well the three songs from this year are all classics, the ones from the last three years are all terrible especially that meme song A&W 1

I noticed it's usually discrepant, but that might happen because of how many more sources they base their lists from. For instance, Lorde's "Green Light" was #5 on AOTY's aggregate, but #1 on AM's. 1
