When did Madonna start to dance in a cringe way?

Recommended Posts

Madonna was one o the iconic original popgirls who could dance well but then she started doing this modonna-dancing.gif like a lot and things changed. I remember even during 2005 she was still dancing fairly well but when did the transition occur? and while I understand she is older which makes dancing more difficult, she's been dancing in this cringe style for a minute and seems like it happened by default and like it became 2nd nature and just a bad habit she could actually train out herself.

I think this started during the MDNA era around 2012 but could be wrong. madonna-dance.gif

Even at her advanced age Madonna still looks more comfortable and at home on stage than just about everybody, and she easily decimates anybody else her age.  She has some bad looking moments but so does literally everybody else. The girl in your pfp has fewer non-cringe dance moments in her entire career than Madonna has cringe ones since MDNA. :deadbanana4:

modonna-dancing.gif

This for example was when she was floating in a contraption that left her almost no space to move during ROL.  She's moving as much of her body as she can in the constraints and in person the effect wasn't nearly as cringe. She was just bopping out to a dance classic. The temu bodysuit and 2016 Nicki Minaj glasses are the only real offenders here.

OK I respect this analysis and breakdown of what's going on here :lmao:

and yes I always say this: Madonna is a NATURAL on stage. Hence why he decline in her dancing abilities was so obvious for everyone to see because everyone knows she kills it on stage. Even when she isnt dancing she owns a stage and she still does BUT the execution of her dancing has been a MESS and she goes back to some of her "tried and true" moves that sometimes come off as just bad dancing / like a bad habit she picked up. idk when this started. Some say during the Sticky & Sweet Tour but idk..yes she had a few "Awakward" moments but it wasnt so visible until maybe MDNA I think? could be wrong tho

Isn't M almost 10 years older than Janet? Don't know about Paula but Janet is definitely still serving on stage

Just looked and they're 8 years apart. I Thought Janet was in her 60's now. if you're still dancing well after you turn 50 or so I think you're doing well. So kudos to Madonna as well. She could've retired years ago if she wanted

You should watch Paula Abdul's performance from the BBMA's a few years ago. She hasn't missed a beat

Honestly, the first time I noticed her dancing was becoming a little cringe was MDNA. I know the Little Madonsters rave about Girl Gone Wild on the tour, and yes, the production and drama is FABULOUS (her best opener ever), but her execution of the choreography was borderline sloppy most times. She didn't look like she could really keep up with the dancers as well and looked stiff in comparison.

I actually thought her dancing on Rebel Heart was pretty good for the most part. The choreography was way more flattering in parts (e.g., ***** I'm Madonna). I also just realized it was the last time we got her iconic knee bends :cries:

I love her, but her dancing was kind of a wreck on Celebration lol. Hung Up looked horrible, I'm sorry. I know the ROL clip gets passed around the internet over and over, but that was one of the coolest moments for her in that show and in the arena came off as totally ****ty. No video does justice for that part. I'll give her a pass on that one.

Her body naturally gave out after the Rebel Heart tour. She was nearing 60 and had toured way too much, for the previous 15 years. 2-hour shows, for months on end, with constant movement throughout. Ever since that point, her dancing looks forced, like she's trying to do only small moves that won't hurt her. I think her over-emphasis on the gym has also affected her flexibility so some moves may look more robotic, but I mainly see (reasonable) fatigue.

I dunno but I feel like those gifs should be used more on ATRL

Starting from MDNA, I think age and pain from constant performances makes her movement more limited

She's doing the Sexy and I Know It shuffle choreo and standing on a flying platform/frame in the other gif :rip:

The MDNA Tour really took a toll on her body. It was arguably the most she danced out of all her tours and she was in her mid 50s. She had health issues during the last few shows and we never saw her dance as heavy since then.

You guys also have to remember she was in severe pain during the Madame X Tour which caused her to get surgery with a long recovery period. Y'all should be thankful she's still at least putting on a good show.

I think we need to be mindful that Supreme Mother almost ******* died last year and still went through with the tour at 65 years old.

MDNA choreo was very complex and challenging, not just GGW but Revolver, Gang Bang, Hung Up, GMAYL, Vogue, Candy Shop, Celebration... some moments were a bit sloppy but that's cause she was probably exhausted.

Madame X and Celebration had their moments but her knee + age have her limited.

Didn't she broke multiple bones in the mid 00's? That might also have something to do with that.
