Truly irredeemable pop albums?

Recommended Posts

An essential part of being a Poptimism diva is we all spill our poppers over and go feral for a particular flop album because it was "too ahead of it's time" "got paid dust" or "was sabotaged by the label" yada yada yada.

You've got your Solar Powers and your Bionics, but is there actually an album you can name that is truly irredeemable, and flopped so hard a cult following can't be justified?

My vote is for the horrendous Myah Jean, but I'd like to her some other opinions :coffee2:

Britney Jean

Joanne

143

Solar Power

This is a tough one because most albums have at least one or two listenable songs including the ones I mentioned (excluding Solar Power, sns).

Lotus. You might save a few songs, but as a body of work? No.

When you think about it, Britney Jean had Work *****. What does 143 have...

Perhaps a bit early to say, but 143. Even apart from... you know, its still a painfully bland and lifeless album. I'm His He's Mine and Lifetimes are highlights if you squint real hard, but there's very little else on the album even worth looking at. It's not necessarily the absolute worst album of the year, but its by far one of the worst and most embarrassing major pop releases in some time. There's nothing to reevaluate or for gays to stan, even ironically.

I dunno. There are usually at least a few good tracks on even the worst albums, so I can usually salvage a nice lil EP / mini-album / maxi-single out of most bad full-length albums.

Already mentioning albums that a large part of fans disliking them, is because of a controversy surrounding them..

--there really are a few irredeemable pop albums within popular artists' discographies ..

the production, melody or/and writing easily saves a lot of them..

TTPD and 143 immediately come to mind.

I'd throw in Gracie Abrams and Tate McRae debuts as well

Britney Jean really is the best example, not many (if any) other albums mentioned so far qualify. The way I played the **** out of it back in 2013/2014 though.  :deadbanana4:

Mandy Moore 'So Real', for one of the 'Big 4' 90s teen pop girls (Britney, Christina, Jessica, Mandy) her album was just Britney B-Sides with one actually good pop song and even 'Candy' is like…..4th single material.

I preferred Crush and Nirvana, I thought they were alright. Lifetimes sounds like royalty free music

It does have Work *****, but does she actually sing any part of that song? :rip: All the 'singing' parts in particular sound extremely Myah Marie

I Used To Think I Could Fly has career highlights like Feel Like ****, She's All I Wanna Be, and Chaotic.

Dream Street is actually kinda cute tho. I love "If It Takes All Night" and "Pretty Boy" (the latter is a bit too lengthy tho).

143. It literally sounds like an AI album, completely drained of any life or creativity.

I couldn't bring myself to listen to it a second time. That and how much I've come to feel annoyed by Greedy, I honestly just can't stand her overall tbh

But this album came a year before Greedy even dropped. If your willing to give her 2nd chance watch this music video. It gagged me when in dropped.
