In hindsight, was 2024 actually Billie's year?

Music fans tend to refer 2024 as Sabrina, Chappell or Charli's year; but in hindsight, was Billie actually the biggest winner of it all?

Well, yeah. 2024 was the year where the new Gen of pop girls finally started to prove that they're here to stay. Billie included. Billie, Sabrina, Chappell all had an amazing year.

She holds the top spot in the most streamed non-extended album and song of 2024 so IMO, ofc

Though, it's so hard to pick on just one artist. All the pop girls dominated in different ways.

Sabrina was just MASSIVE this year. The Espresso-PPP-Taste run is truly for the books. I can understand why someone would call it her year. If we are talking about eras, I'd say Sabrina enjoyed the biggest era. Heck, even Ariana performed amazingly this year,

Billie's success will always be so impressive though. The fact she amassed over 4.6 billion streams in one year with only ten songs is probably a record never seen before. With the overwhelming success of this era, she's squashed all debates about her being over and reclaimed her throne as the biggest Gen Z pop star.

I wouldn't call it Chappell's year though. I feel the year she returns with her second era is going to be her year.

Billie had a successful year but I think anyone would have a hard time making the argument it was her year over Sabrina.

Taylor just had a 12M seller this year (including 7M in the US) and ended a 2B grossing tour so no, I don't think it's the case. She is #2 with Sabrina though.

Honestly? No. She clearly had a great year commercially but she wasn't dominating anyone's conversation. Even her coming out felt like a non-event

i love Billie just being honest

Sabrina's year.

Norah outsold Avril in 2002 but who's the one that's often associated with that year?

Posted (edited)

Well yes.

The 2nd Oscar, 2nd Golden Globe, and 2 Grammys (including her 2nd SOTY, by the way) were enough to put her ahead in March of this year, but then she delivered her best album yet - arguably the best album of the year. She has the sales, streams, critical acclaim, and 7 Grammy nominations, including all the major categories: AOTY, SOTY, ROTY, BPVA.

ATRL makes it a point to ignore her in most posts, acting as if she hasn't been killing it non-stop since 2019. Even her 'flop' era has stats that most artists can only dream of.

Sure, Sabrina, Chappell, and other artists had a big year if we talk eras/albums and bigger than before not taking their value it made the year much more interesting for everyone too, but Billie is already in a league of her own. None of her peers from this generation come close.

Sabrina's year IMO

It still feels like Sabrina's year, she was pumping up hit after hit so that kind of help Billie had an amazing year regardless.

She's going to sweep the Grammy's too :michael:

I think 2024 was Sabrina's year but this doesn't mean that other girls can't slay too. And Billie was a winner in 2024.

I love Avril but Norah dominated that Year. Come Away with Me was literally everywhere and she swept all the Grammys.

Her album it's still top tier to this day.

This does not take away from Avril value at all imo but it's facts.

Billie was the most impressive despite other girls being the breakout stars

It's kind of like how Eminem sold the most albums in 2010 but nobody would call that "his year"

This 100%. In some ways her year is similar to Taylor/TTPD. Massive by numbers but not culturally relevant in pop culture for the year.

Yeah I think it was her year

Taylor sold more copies but Taylormania feels over culturally and it feels like Billie, Sabrina and Chappel were 100% more celebrated in 2024.

HMHAS is her biggest album too, the album tracks are insanely big

Yes - not only did she have commercial success but she had critical acclaim and hit smash singles as well i.e. Birds of a Feather being most streamed song of 2024 despite being a summer release

Are you old enough to know who dominated in 2002? :skull:

Except that TTPD's massive numbers were mainly carried by Swifties' mass streaming/bulk-buying and the initial hype with the GP (that quickly fizzled out)

HMHAS's success was nothing like that

If we exclude Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift, then perhaps yes. :cm:

No! everyone knows it was Taylor's year. Billie's album was actually a flop and heavily relied on one cute hit unlike TTPD where each song is known by the GP.

If you think it was Billie's year you are an OTH
