Blackout2006 Posted Thursday at 11:53 AM Posted Thursday at 11:53 AM I was only 3-4 when the song came out but I still remember hearing it many years after its release. I think Gaga was the first artist I ever knew because of that song. For members who were teenagers or old enough, what was the release of this song like? Gaga came from one of the biggest eras of the 2000s, so what was the hype like? Were people expecting her to fall? What was the reception when the song first came out? Pls tell me whatever u remember abt it :D 1
Joyride Posted Thursday at 12:02 PM Posted Thursday at 12:02 PM my friends and I first listened to the demo and then it was announced a week or so later. it was a moment, very culturally relevant. video was very futuristic. 5 1
getBusy Posted Thursday at 12:06 PM Posted Thursday at 12:06 PM It certainly was a moment. Gay clubs played it non-stop, the video was everywhere and it was THE topic of conversation. 1 1

cOe Posted Thursday at 12:11 PM Posted Thursday at 12:11 PM I was 11 and everyone talked about Lady Gaga but I didn't really know which songs were of hers on the radio For some reason I thought for like a year or two that Bad Romance and Poker Face are 80s songs and was surprised that it's Gaga The first Gaga song I really knew was Gaga was Eh Eh and I thought all her music sounds like it 2
Kayseri Mantisi Posted Thursday at 12:13 PM Posted Thursday at 12:13 PM (edited) i was only 6 but i can tell you that it felt like this whole world stopped. everyone was perched & they were tuning into new GaGa. she was on the TV, on the radio, on the news, on the papers, on the billboards, on the cars in the streets. your mom, your dad, your straight bros were talking about her. wherever you look, you were seeing GaGa & her unique legendaric art. єѕℓαм Posted Thursday at 12:14 PM Posted Thursday at 12:14 PM Well as someone who witnessed it it was truly a cultural reset in every sense of the term 6
Dante Silva Posted Thursday at 12:17 PM Posted Thursday at 12:17 PM It was a big single, played in all the gay clubs too. It gave her debut album era legs. Nobody outside of the U.S. could buy "The Fame" and "The Fame Monster" as separate releases. They were bundled together for international markets. "Bad Romance" is also the point where the disco stick was put to one side and her fashion choices expanded in to more avant-garde territory. Revisionists don't like to admit it, but this was also the point when to many, she solidified her status as the natural successor to Madonna. 2
ONOPKA Posted Thursday at 12:17 PM Posted Thursday at 12:17 PM it was a MOMENT i remember watching the alexander mcqueen show where it premiered. i saw the monster ball tour in feb 2010 and the crowd was absolutely feral for it i remember it so vividly. 2
tost1 Posted Thursday at 12:20 PM Posted Thursday at 12:20 PM Everyone I knew turned gay for a few months, it was a collapse!
Hair Posted Thursday at 12:21 PM Posted Thursday at 12:21 PM I remember the demo leaking and that annoying b*rim exclusive baby tag I was so excited for her performance on The X Factor and I made sure all my family watched it and they thought I was absolutely nuts and that my love for her would just be a phase. Also I remember getting my Monster Ball ticket for £27.50, those were the days 1
Sailor Moon Posted Thursday at 12:27 PM Posted Thursday at 12:27 PM i remember my classmates singing the ra ra ra ah part all the time, and the song playing in tv commercials. that song truly felt like the smash that it is. 2
Daddy Posted Thursday at 12:33 PM Posted Thursday at 12:33 PM It was a crazy time. I was in love with a DJ at a party I went to every weekend. The Bad Romance demo leaked and I brought it to him and told him what it was. He played it and me and my bestie screamed the words while everyone else was confused. What a time, especially with the Telephone video leaking a few months afterwards too 4
Revolution Posted Thursday at 12:40 PM Posted Thursday at 12:40 PM There was still monoculture back then so everyone and their dog knew it and was singing it. YouTube was such a small site that we all saw the video and the various parodies. It truly broke the internet. 7
sugarysunflower Posted Thursday at 12:40 PM Posted Thursday at 12:40 PM It put legs on the already popular The Fame era. JustDance, Poker Face, Paparrazi and Lovegame was good for a solid year. But Bad Romance was the start of the extended era with TFM. It was introduction of Gaga / The Fame on steroids. The song production was more boisterous, the persona was bolder, the fashion was more daring like avant-garde goth high fashion and the music video itself was a massive stand out: costume design, production, choreography, filming …. It was a top-notch video. But it got blocked by Empire State of Mind and Tik Tok in the US. It was lucky it reached #1 in the U.K. since most of the #1 singles at the time in all the other weeks was selling immensely more. 2
Fleahive Posted Thursday at 12:41 PM Posted Thursday at 12:41 PM (edited) A non-event since other songs and videos were smashing at the same time. This definitely has history rewritten to make it appear as if it was the biggest song of the century. More people spoke about the meat dress, egg, and telephone video. Mariya Takeuchi Posted Thursday at 12:54 PM Posted Thursday at 12:54 PM it was just like this for a certain fanbase
UrMom Posted Thursday at 01:26 PM Posted Thursday at 01:26 PM f*** i'm old, i was a grown ass man in college when this came out i remember she leaked demos of this and alejandro months earlier so it was kind of old news to me by the time it was released, but still a banger. and The Fame Monster remains her opus. 1 1
Rino Posted Thursday at 01:51 PM Posted Thursday at 01:51 PM back then we still mostly watched TV as a form of entertainment in our house, and I remember randomly catching Bad Romance's video on a music channel. girl let me tell you it hit me like a truck. a clear moment that divided my life before and after Bad Romance. I was never the same 3

aadrl1 Posted Thursday at 02:00 PM Posted Thursday at 02:00 PM It was not as hyped up as the release of Born This Way (single), which the whole gay world stopped and stared that day But with a decent size fan base at that time it was a well anticipated release, not humongous upon release, but left the song space to grow into the juggernaut it is today. Alejandro was an album song that made no noise initially until Gaga performed on American Idol, it bungee humped that night And obviously the Grammy night and, even bigger, the MTV night with the meat dress and announcement of BTW push that era to a new height and likewise Gaga's whole career hightlight 1
Saddy Posted Thursday at 02:04 PM Posted Thursday at 02:04 PM Where I lived it was huge. The music channels played the MV non-stop, you could hear it in every store and on the radio
Princess Aurora Posted Thursday at 02:05 PM Posted Thursday at 02:05 PM (edited) It was a moment for sure. I remember listening to the demo on YouTube around October/November 2009 and I was confused because she sounded different vocally. However, it was a cultural reset. The first months of 2010 were all about Kesha, Gaga, Katy, and Rihanna. Miley, Demi, Selena, and the Jonas Brothers were basically what KPOP is nowadaysI remember all those video edits I saved on my Google drive lol Edited Thursday at 02:06 PM by Princess Aurora 5
