Now renew their contracts

Even though deep in my heart I know Miss Yuehua probably has other plans for Hao, Yujin, Gyuvin & Ricky :chick3:

I'm hoping the other 5 will continue. I doubt their nugu company have plans for them (Hanbin, Jiwoong, Taerae, Matthew & Gunwook)

My body is ready for Doctor, Doctor though

They're sending all of them straight to the khia asylum, except maybe Hanbin if they don't form a group as 5 + maybe some others.

Belated 10th anniversary post for GFRIEND :heart2:

From the perspective of a Sone, I remember the lead up to their debut clearer than any other group.

Jessica had left SNSD not long ago, they had just cried their asses off at Tokyo Dome and the future of the group was uncertain. It was hard to be optimistic.

Then this picture dropped:

spacer.png

The outroar was immediate. The single most genius marketing move from Source Music.

They also named one of the members Sowon for good measure, which I had totally forgotten until this post :deadbanana2:

Then when Glass Bead dropped with its clear musical / choreo influences (as well as being a good song), they already had a significant leg up from the other nugus despite the $5 budget.

For me, the group lost their musical touch after Fingertip, but it continues to amaze me how well they've done from their humble origins. Rough is still widely agreed to be the greatest k-pop song of all time, and I think the execution of that choreography and music video stand as the pinnacle of what makes k-pop so great.

The debut of Twice later that year is commonly regarded as the start of the 3rd Generation, but in my mind the lore of GFRIEND's early career marks the true handover from SNSD and their contemporaries.

They always are, they were and are still the GG who have the most varied and stellar choreographies.

it's even more impressive that their dances don't compensate their ability to sing

They really need bring back Rino Nakasone, the creative minds behind the SNSD brand are just as phenomenal like the group

The way both the 5th gen and 3rd gen JYP bg are consequentially having a release on the same day.

KickFlip's debut was cute

GOT7 are independent now, though their music hasn't been as good ever since they left JYP

The best vocalist being the rapper too... AMARU is about to CARRY THEM ON HIS BACK.

Not him being the Junhyokcé of Kickflip.

2NE1 keeping pace with SNSD's gargantuan and iconic discography with a fraction of the songs begs to differ, just like it begs to differ on Gaon where 2NE1(4 years of activity in the Gaon era, 2 albums and one mini total) had both more #1s and more weeks at #1. SNSD are a bigger name but the numbers and sold out reunion tour don't lie, 2NE1 are undeniably the #2 just like how aespa is #2 to NJ and Black Pink is #2 to Twice, they're very close behind/surpass in certain metrics in all cases. This is a pattern that you're refusing to see. :celestial5:

The only lies are that NewJeans isn't #1 when their flop sabotage era had more album sales last year than aespa, with years old songs of theirs still in the year end chart; and that 2NE1 couldn't possibly hold a candle to SNSD's success when they dogwalked our favs in every single market except for Japan during the brief window that they were active. Both NJ and 2NE1 literally had their labels pull the plug on their careers but the demand remained. I don't think you understand how powerful that is.:celestial5:

aespa was the best selling girl group 2 years ago physically and no was calling them the #1 girl group.  also IVE did sold way more than NJ and aespa over all and had the best selling album for girl groups last year yet they kinda fell off :celestial5:

If this was 2022 still, the crown were theirs but we're now in 2025 sis. Up until they would be able to recover and replicate the same success again they had without HYBE's backing and massive payola then it's aespa's crown to take :celestial5:

koreansales_twt has the following numbers for 2024:

nj - 3.0m

aespa - 2.7m

ive - 2.3m

Supernova was a gigantic hit but How Sweet was right behind it for most of the year. In digitals overall it wasn't even close, NJ destroyed aespa. Nobody is saying NJ didn't take an unjustified hit that would be very odd to celebrate, its just that even after they were knocked down a peg they're still #1 because they were lightyears ahead to start. An act like aespa with niche, often experimental(for kpop) music being #2 is a gigantic achievement, it's not an insult. I like aespa a lot more than I like NJ, I'm just not delusional. :celestial5:

This are digital points. IVE has the record for the most physicals among their peers so why we aren't including them?

remove all their 2022 songs in the list then you'll have your current numbers which is a massive underperformance for the supposed Korean Beatles bigger than the industry :celestial5:

300M points or more and aespa will destroy them just base on current numbers :celestial5:

The album sales are not digital points, that was just some supplementary reading. The fact is that we all agree that 2024 was NJ's downfall and a NJ downfall still looks bigger on paper than an aespa peak and that should say a lot. :suburban:

Remove all their 2022 songs and they still had the #9, 33, 34, 37, 41, 59, 142, 197, and 200 spots on the year end digitals chart, which is more than aespa had even including their 2021 hits and still more(and many higher) entries than IVE. :suburban:

Arbitrarily subtracting the points from their 2022 songs in a desperate attempt to lie to ourselves about aespa's standing like our lives depend on it still leaves them with 2,175,160,204 points which is well above IVE(who mostly charted with old songs too) and barely above aespa. Anyway you try to spin it, NJ was bigger than aespa during every single year both groups were active(sounds familiar actually )

which then again thanks to their old hits and over all points they accumulated

what we should be worrying if NJ would have to see the same success again without HYBE
