DoubleRainbow! Posted Thursday at 08:50 PM Posted Thursday at 08:50 PM weird how tiktok were only having fun with this but then twitter finds it and ruins it all
IVY Posted Thursday at 10:12 PM Posted Thursday at 10:12 PM I always thought that, and it's not about the clothes or the aesthetics that she adopts with every era because every artist does that, but it's more about the fake accent, fake attitude & personality or the fake tan she had on during her R&B days. Most people don't know who is the real Ariana Grande.
MattieB Posted Thursday at 11:12 PM Posted Thursday at 11:12 PM What an insufferable *****. This is literally censorship 2

El Nino Posted Thursday at 11:25 PM Posted Thursday at 11:25 PM Everything about her is fake from her persona, appearance, and down to the way she sings. Her whole singing career, especially in the early days, was mimicking Mariah Carey. I still don't know what is her true singing voice. Is it the one on Higher or Dig Deeper or whatever it is called? Then she went from mimicking Mariah to being Victoria Monet's Frankenstein. Nothing about her is original . 1

Most people don't know who is the real Ariana Grande. Her two most r&b albums, with zero pop producers on them, were Yours Truly and Positions and she didn't have the strong tan on either of them. Ariana's music has always been leaning towards r&b and she's been mentioning r&b artists as inspirations from the Victorious days, especially India.Arie. Even on her newest album, which is 100% Max Martin and his camp of Swedes, most of the songs are r&b tinged and the 3rd single featured (and referenced) Brandy and Monica. I agree that Ariana comes across fake in her mannerisms and the way she speaks sometimes (especially these days), but one thing she isn't is an r&b cosplayer or opportunist. 3
JT55331 Posted Thursday at 11:43 PM Posted Thursday at 11:43 PM no matter how hard they try to cancel her, she always bounces back even harder. These same allegations come flying at her once a year. Watch her drown out this noise with multiple awards for her outstanding performance as Glinda the good 7
gimmelaugh Posted Thursday at 11:56 PM Posted Thursday at 11:56 PM Every time this topic comes up I remember Jesy Nelson The way Ariana's (and Miley's) image and behaviour were exactly the same as Jesy's yet there's way less people who care about it
Communion Posted Friday at 12:06 AM Posted Friday at 12:06 AM (edited) 5 hours ago, IVY said: Most people don't know who is the real Ariana Grande. A lot of this is weird projection and revisionism. She literally got the career she has by connecting with fans on early social media during Victorious. Like it's one thing to kiki and cackle over some of the things - some of them even said affectionately by fans, some a bit of prickling she deserves for being clumsy at how she's handled criticisms at times - but her like.. actual speaking voice is actually largely unchanged and has been same throughout her career. The only change has largely been via the vocal training to speak like Glinda. Her manner of speech has largely been defined as sardonic with dry, sarcastic humor. Even her love for musicals is a through-line throughout her career. 7 Rings samples a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical number. The same debut album that gets executive produced by Babyface: is the same debut album featuring a song literally sampling "Popular" from Wicked: This literally took place right in the middle of the thank u, next era: No one has to like Ariana Grande or even like her existing as a white woman in what *are* largely musical genre spaces defined by black women. The past holds plenty to critique and there have been voices giving criticisms that were actionable and insightful, but trying to retcon some weird retelling of her entire career is.. silly. I agree that Ariana comes across fake in her mannerisms and the way she speaks sometimes (especially these days), but one thing she isn't is an r&b cosplayer or opportunist. The fact that the version of Positions we got is still much more restrained from how deep into r&b she wanted to go and that the scrapped demos from the album reveal just how deeply into the sound she was working, with her demos eventually being passed onto artists like Chris Brown, etc. Mocking her for the tan is one thing and often deserved because she tried to course-correct discreetly, but erasing from history that she essentially went on to make her most r&b album after trying to course-correct and *didn't* drop the genre feels like dishonest criticism when people make it. It also being completely written with the same set of collaborators she worked with on: Yours Truly, My Everything, Dangerous Woman, Sweetener, *AND* Thank U, Next. The *insane* **** people feel comfortable claiming about her and Victoria yet none of these same people were giving Victoria Monet her flowers, let alone not even a stream, back in the days of 2016, while Ariana was serving as the Official Victoria Monet Street Team. Kimi Posted Friday at 02:06 AM Posted Friday at 02:06 AM her thank you next era was as offensive as what miley did with bangerz. nowadays, when conservatism is on the rise she got extremely pale and soft spoken, but sure, organic, natural evolution of a person lmao. 3 2 1

Bubble Tea Posted Friday at 11:00 AM Posted Friday at 11:00 AM This is such a "Kim there's people who are dying" thing. There's literally real wars and nations in disarray because of structural racism. Girls putting on accents to be trendy with whatever is on social media at a given time truly need not be the breaking point for which you need to "speak out" (post anonymously) about cultural appropriation on ATRL.net. No one is impressed. No one thinks you're a better person. 4 1
