I wouldn't say Ariana is a bigot, but I do find it questionable that she was darkening her skin and using AAVE during her R&B era, but is now acting like an Old Hollywood actress to secure an Oscar nomination.

Ariana has been taking influence from r&b and hip-hop since day one what do you mean r&b era? That's her whole music career lmao. The Way literally interpolates Big Pun's "Still Not a Player" and is a 90s r&b throwback song. Yours Truly in general is a throwback 90s r&b album that uses samples from iconic r&b/hip-hop songs of that era. They weren't comparing her to Mariah just because of vocals lol. She was doing the Old Hollywood image at this time too. This is not a new thing for her. If anything her maximalist EDM pop era (Bang Bang, Break Free, Into You, etc.) was inauthentic to her. 

 

Ariana has consistently worked with black creatives and has given them credit and a platform. She launched Tommy Brown's producing career and gave Victoria Monet a platform to launch her own solo career. Both of them are on the record giving her props for this. Ariana has always cited her influences being mostly black women and has given them their flowers. Making her out to be using black aesthetics and not giving credit/love to the genre and culture is untrue. I mean let's be real Ariana was covering India Arie at age 14, she's genuine with her love of the genre and culture. 

 

Tbh besides use of the "blaccent", her whole look during Sweetener/TUN was giving Italian-American woman from Long Island/NJ. I swear some of y'all don't go outside.

When has she stopped making r&b/pop music? All her albums are r&b/pop from Yours Truly to Eternal Sunshine. She literally just did a remix with Brandy and Monica for "the boy is mine" this year (an r&b/pop song taking inspiration from the iconic OG 90s r&b/pop song by r&b icons Brandy & Monica). She did a remix with Mariah too. Literally the most consistent thing is her music genre and maintaining her r&b/pop roots. Be serious. 

 

Btw she was dressing in 1950s Old Hollywood looks and aesthetics during Yours Truly. You know her debut album that pulled inspiration from 90s r&b and hip-hop produced by r&b legend Babyface?
