jdanton2 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 so sad even though he lived longer than expected since his illness.

schnetzka Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 So it's probably coincidental but it's wild how a lot of celebrities or political figures die within the last few days of the year. Betty White died Dec. 31st, Barbara Walters died Dec. 30, and now Jimmy Carter died Dec. 29. Wonder if there is a scientific reason for that. Regardless, condolences to his family and friends. 4
BorderBoy Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 He believed in Palestinians' right to self-determination.

Wouldn't there be a natural occurrence of deaths in winter months than other times of year? Also, I saw elsewhere that it may be 'holding onto Xmas' phenomenon for family reasons and then just letting go. 1
dumbsparce Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 As a non-American, I'm shocked every time I discover a US president I had no idea about. What do they mean "according to his son"? Do presidents just drop off the face of the planet after their term ends that only close relatives can give info about them?

Pikachoo Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 RIP. He was a good man. and at least now he will at least get the proper respect and funeral he deserves under Biden. Trump would have said some dumb comment about him and moved on 1
ClashAndBurn Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 @i spit on haters Sis, It's pretty likely Trump outlives every other president but Obama. People like him tend to last forever off of nothing but spite. Looking at Strom Thurmond, your own former Senator, living to 100 years old himself
CandyCoatedClouds Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 I don't think we'll ever get a mna like Jimmy Cater in office ever again. We may come close but it won't be the same.

What do they mean "according to his son"? Do presidents just drop off the face of the planet after their term ends that only close relatives can give info about them? No, they don't drop off the face of the planet. All that quote means is that it was his son who informed the press of his passing. If it had been his publicist or his estate, that's who would have been quoted. Former presidents are very much still public figures and written about as such. It just so happens that Carter, once he was unable to communicate with the press himself, chose to have his family speak on his behalf instead of an entity like his estate or The Carter Center. The press can't just get that info on their own, they don't sit in these people's homes all day. They have to be informed by a middle man, the same as when the person was the President (in that case their middle man was the press secretary). His son has been the primary person who spoke to the press with updates about Carter's time in hospice. Edited December 30, 2024 by Mr. Mendes 3 1
