Katy Perry is my go-to example. I thought IKAG was just a novelty song, and she'd have a hard time living up to its success. Yet she kept proving me wrong with all the OOTB singles and ultimately obliterated my prediction with the TD era  

 

And in a way, Adele in the US. After the tasteless masses here paid 19 dust (even with all the TV/award-show promo), I assumed her later albums wouldn't even chart here. I was SO wrong lol!

thinking of Olivia here but she is selling out stadiums now and has two hit albums and a solid fanbase the pop girls can only dream of having   She is still thriving even though under constant attack by the Swifties and related.
