poki Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 I was about to ask why is Edge of Glory mentioned here but WTF it has less daily streams than Heavy Metal Lover. Wow. Spotify stats are so crazy. 1
Moonlight Nation Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Ooo...great idea for a thread! I'll be digging deep for my picks. Beyoncé (peaked at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 25 weeks charting. As I'm writing this, it has 31,735 daily streams on Spotify - Beyoncé's 91st best-performing song) Despite being a feature, I stand by this choice as Beyoncé's presence truly elevates a song I already loved. Her and Timberlake worked surprisingly well together, and this is probably my favourite single of his. Honourable mentions to "Best Thing I Never Had" (I know the Hive tends to dislike this one, but I've always loved it) and "XO" (I could have sworn it was a bigger hit given how much airplay it got in my home country, which is why I'm counting it). I tried to find the sweet spot of songs with poor recurrent streams + airplay which also happen to be ignored by the artists themselves, hence why I ignored "Déjà Vu" despite it being among my favourite Beyoncé singles. Lady Gaga (peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100, spending 20 weeks on the charts. As I'm writing this, it has 44,886 daily streams on Spotify - her 33rd best-performing song and only behind "Dope" as her worst-performing top 10 single) Kinda the default pick given how many Gaga singles (and deep cuts!) have gone moderately viral on TikTok in recent years, and despite being deleted from streaming services, "Do What U Want" is still remembered - for better or worse. "You And I" is still an extremely underrated song regardless. Jennifer Lopez (the original version of "I'm Real", whose 'Murder Remix' ft. Ja Rule, completely reinventing the song, became a massive hit stateside. However, despite not living through this period, I read the album version was just as popular, if not more, elsewhere in the globe, including being credited on JLo's UK Chart History. As I'm writing this, it has 2,306 daily streams on Spotify - her 63rd best-performing song on the platform) I'm cheating a bit with this pick, but it genuinely annoys me the insufferable Ja Rule remix has completely overshadowed the superior version of this song. It's such a bop, and as a Mariah fan, I hate to say it, but JLo's producers used the "Firecracker" sample better than Mariah and her team did. I don't think "Loverboy" ever had a chance. "If We", on the other hand, deserved all the success the "I'm Real" remix got. Honourable mention to "I'm Glad". Peaked at #11 in the UK, charting for 14 weeks, while it was a very moderate hit stateside (pk. #32, 16 wks charting). Only getting 4,292 daily streams in 2024. Britney Spears Seems like these two are forgotten to similar levels, so I'm putting both together as tie: (peaked at #12 on the UK Singles Chart, spending 11 weeks charting - the average for a moderate hit at the time. As I'm writing this, it has 7,717 daily streams on Spotify - Britney's 42nd best performing song) (an US-exclusive release while "Born To Make You Happy" was pushed elsewhere, it peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100, spending 20 weeks on the chart. As I'm writing this, the song finds itself with 7,770 daily streams on Spotify - Britney's 41st best performing track. Probably my personal pick for her most underappreciated single, but I'm biased as someone who loves ballads) 4
chaklux Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Beyoncé - Baby boy (9 weeks at number 1, was super huge hit back then ), naughty girl , XO, If I were a boy, Deja Vu, and check on it

Agree with you on I'm Real as a JLo fan and a Lamb the firecracker sample absolutely worked better with JLo and the pop version was miles better than the rap one that overshadowed it and I loved listening to it on the radio. Loverboy works so much better as it turned out so it was for the best, it doesn't work with the firecracker sample and the story is iconic. Tommy Mottola is the real enemy there imo. 2 hours ago, chaklux said: Beyoncé - Baby boy (9 weeks at number 1, was super huge hit back then ), naughty girl , XO, If I were a boy, Deja Vu, and check on it Baby Boy was a moment with Seannadapaul. 1 hour ago, gab00 said: 3, You and I, irreplaceable Irreplacable was the song that saved the Bday era (only because the singles prior to it were poorly chosen - the album is my fave Bey album) 2

MatiRod Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 "3" by Britney. It's streaming stats are very low for what was a big #1 hit at the time that played everywhere. 2

I think it's partly due to the younger audiences still being GAGGED by Gimme More, etc. that they haven't yet gotten to 3. I feel a resurgence may come into play once the late 00s come into vogue. And speaking of Vogue, these girlies are also probably experiencing a Madonna-like effect in which they have just too many hits that some are bound to be forgaga'd. When Gen Alpha gets into dubstep oh my god I will be checking myself into the nursing home. As much as I loved it at the time it is so hard to listen to now tbh.
