TTPD.  I know it's popular on here to hate on it (which I don't believe is all in good faith but I digress!) but it genuinely got better and better with each listen for me which was such a weird experience to have with a Taylor album...there's never been an album of hers that has taken me multiple listens to process and reveal itself to me.  I love that there's a story running through it, some of her best writing, and it has some career bests (Guilty As Sin, I Look In People's Windows, loml, So Long London, just to name a few).  Conceptually, it almost reminds me a bit of Blue Banisters in the sense of the "if you really wanna know...here's everything" nature that it has, which I appreciate.

I'm still pretty disappointed with Radical Optimism, bar a few songs (Falling Forever, Houdini, Happy for You).  Houdini is still one of my favorite songs she's ever put out but the rest of the album just felt very meh to me, with not much to come back to.

They both came out this year so there really isn't a way for us to answer this

I never would've expected to come to love TTPD after my first listen, cause it was a huge disappointment to me, but I love it now :deadbanana4:

Radical Optimism has some really good songs (Training Season, Illusion, Happy for You, Falling Forever), but it doesn't really feel like an album to me the way Future Nostalgia did. It lacks cohesion. Some songs don't scream Dua either. It's cool she branched out to other sounds, but some of the songs could've been made by everybody.

TTPD on the other hand is VERY Taylor. That was part of my huge disappointment at first: I didn't want any more wordy, unmelodic dreamy synth pop from her. But the melodies grew on me. A lot. The same happened with folklore and evermore. And now it's even hard to imagine why I didn't like the melodies in the first place. I guess the production and the build-ups are so subtle I had to find the details yet. I still really want Taylor to do something else next, but I can't deny I really like around 75% of TPPD and think around 10% might be among her strongest tracks. And I feel like no one could've made this except Taylor, truly making it feel like an album :cm:

hmmm well on one hand we got Guilty as Sin?, But Daddy I Love Him, and Clara Bow

and on the other hand we got Whatcha Doing, Training Season, and Houdini

so hmmmmm :ryan2:

have to say I think I return to the Taylor songs slightly more frequently… so she wins this one

Honestly neither. They both sound straight out of 2021-22 but I voted for Dua cause I like the album better.

Even Willa Ford's Christmas jingle released 23 years ago aged better than these albums...
