prettyinpink940 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago And Chained to the Rhythm, her short hair, etc. never would have happened. Would it have been another hit era? Would Woman's World have gone to #1?
Illuminati Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Even by Witness standards 143 is abysmal so I doubt it would have improved the reception 9
zoldyck Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago All songs on 143 are worse than 3 witness singles. Smile>Witness>143 3
ChooseyLover Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Ignoring the fact the album could never be made back then because one of the major inspirations of it was being a mother... Oh honey, it would have been career suicide. Mediocre lead single and Dr. Luke's name attached to it almost at the height of his legal battle with Kesha. It would have been massacre.
Popular Post HausOfPunk Posted 13 hours ago Popular Post Posted 13 hours ago COVID would have happened sooner. 19
WERKER Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Woman's World would be diamond and Nirvana would have been at #1 for 8 weeks+. No blonde buzzcut would have meant Katy would have stayed on top. Regardless of what everyone's individual bias is, that is the truth of the matter 3
SharGaga Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Witness is still a better album than 143 so what do you think? It would have flopped harder than Witness. She was coming off of Dark Horse but the subsequent flops and long break didn't help at all. I doubt timing would have saved 143 which is objectively bad and uninspired. 1
Popular Post Bhabylon Posted 12 hours ago Popular Post Posted 12 hours ago ChatGPT didn't exist back then, so half of the lyrics couldn't have existed back then 16

It would have been massacre. how do you make a record about experience motherhood and having a DAUGHTER but then have it produced by a rapist, abusive and emotionally manipulative man? oh katy… she should've pulled an adele and use ray or light as inspiration OT: would have have been dragged if she kept dr puke. if she had gotten an actually good producer… would have been dragged too because the songs are pure garbaj
Cyanide Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Maybe she could've ate some Hillary Clinton white feminist scraps with WW
Fitzswiftie Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Witness bellyflopping spectacularly humanised her, for probably the only time on record. it's the canon event that made the KatyKats stay instead of just moving on to the next pop girl. She would've just released another bland Katy Perry record and faded away like other 00s pop stars after the hits stop, like Fergie, Nelly and Pitbull.
KillingYourCareer Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago No song from 143 would've done as well as Chained to the Rhythm. Some songs could've been minor hits back then, but even Bon Appétit and Swish Swish were bigger than anuthing from 143 could've been.
BrokenMachine Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Pop was dead in 2017. Witness goes kinda better for the 2017 sound. 143 is way too dance-pop for it to pull some numbers around that time, the flopping would have been bigger
Rotunda Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago (edited) So Witness came out prior to Kesha's Praying and prior to the MeToo Movement picking up steam, so I don't think the GP would be as attuned to Dr. Luke's misbehavior as they are now. Woman's World probably does slightly worse than CTTR, but debuts top 10 before falling off immediately. Lifetimes probably does better than Bon Appetit (since there's no SNL controversy) and is maybe a Top 40 hit. I'm His, He's Mine (assuming this features Nicki instead of Doechii given its 2017) is maybe a Top 20 hit. The album is probably still poorly received, and Katy pivots away from Luke shortly after the era closes. Edited 10 hours ago by Rotunda 2
ariesgroove Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago 143 sonically would've still been extremely dated even in 2017, wouldn't have helped her case much tbh
Magno Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago (edited) I think Gimme Gimme's sound remembers me Strip that down when it comes to repeat and beat, I think could be a top 10 and have an equal or better performance than Strip that down, remember Rockstar was Savage's first smash and bank account his first solo hit in that year. Ba didn't do well even Migos with bad and bungee, because of their problematic discuss, but like Skip , Savage doesn't have a polemic. I think instead of CTTR the most catch sound out of 143's to trade it , it is Crush, I guess would do the same as CTT, while Gimme Gimme would do better than Bon Appetit despite music video Surely wouldn't make it, and I'm his he's mine in the spot of swish swish would do better too since there was no polemic nor blond hair, And no Swift 's shade I believe peaks could've been: Crush #4 Gimme Gimme #9 I'm his he's mine #10 The album would do well because of coming before Kesha's Praying. 143 would come more than 3 months before praying 's release. nostalgic Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I can't imagine a world without my Roulette/Bigger Than Me
Solaria Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago This thread really makes me realize how hard Katy fumbled with NRO and HIH. She really could have had a solid comeback 1
loveisdead9582 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Idk. I don't think it would have been received as poorly as it currently is. The music is bland even for 2017 standards but the album itself is a bit more consistent than witness.
bestfiction Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago During the peak of MeToo movement, in the same year as Kesha dropped Praying? The backlash would've been insane.
