hallucinate Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago (edited) inspired by the tiktok below (couldn't embed it) do you think Tiktok's forced virality is just another form of promotion or pure fraudulence? https://vt.tiktok.com/ZS6jYtpfM/ i think it's a mix of both tbh Edited 13 hours ago by hallucinate
hallucinate Posted 13 hours ago Author Posted 13 hours ago also i was going to add a poll but got lazy
Badgalbriel Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago It depends. Just look at Apple. You'd think the song was a smash hit with 1B streaming numbers for how much ot was pushed there. On the other hand, so many huge singles from the past years came from tiktok trends. So it depends a lot. 1 3

Rico Shameless v2 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago (edited) What exactly would be the fraudulence? Advertisement is paid for in most spaces. edit: And at the end of the day, songs don't always benefit from it. And if they do, it would still require people to actively stream or buy the music being pushed which is free will. Pushing on TikTok doesn't guarantee a hit will form on the charts. Pushing on TikTok doesn't guarantee a hit will form on the charts. i mean only influencers get paid for it so in most cases the average user isn't aware that the song is being "forced" to become a tiktok trend that's why some people think it's "fraudulent"
Trent W Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Radio deals, playlists and paying tiktok influencers are fraudulent practices 1
Blade Runner Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago (edited) I don't understand stupid people thinking PROMOTION is some sort of dirty game. It's literally advertising. Happens with everything and for centuries now. Are you guys 12? Edit: that TikTok reminded me of this, lol Edited 12 hours ago by Blade Runner 1 2
modeblock Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago It's just another form of promotion, no different than Godga pushing Nurtec on the Liddos.

Rev8 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago It's just a new type of promotion But it's funny how many teams are Still late to the show and don't do these kinds of stuff (or dont even pay for playlists) I guess it feels fraudulent because there isn't really an indication and it just feels "behind the back" when found out like the clip imo Fraudulent is when TikTok changes their formula so a certain video appears on your feed like they admitted to testing/doing
Lady Claire Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago There is no such thing as "forced virality". It's either viral or not. A song can be forced down people's throats but if the public doesn't like it then they won't support it. Like it was already said, this isn't different than radio deals or playlisting placements, it's just a different kind of payola but the results will depend on the public's reaction. 2

CottageHore Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago It's definitely forced to an extent, of course it is. This is an app thriving under capitalism. It's all about making an app that allows for opportunity to make money. I'm at least grateful TikTok gives power to normal people to cash in on marketing and helping promote songs and products. It allows everyone to benefit from the **** show we call consumerism rather than just the CEOs and head of companies benefitting.
