Which one is the bigger classic?

Did talent win or lose?

Unconditionally is the bigger classic, but Never Really Over is obviously the much, much better song.

NRO is the better song but Unconditionally a bigger classic. I'd be lying if I said that part in the Unconditionally video where her back turns as the car crashes into her and all the flowers start blossoming isn't a classic in and of itself.

Uncle Deshawn Ali is obviously bigger, but NRO remains much superior. It's such a perfectly crafted pop song with just the perfect amount of maturity and Katy's signature bright bubbly persona while having a universal theme of love and heartbreak, coupled with an interesting stellar production and musical arrangement. Uncle is also pretty universal and talks about loving someone unconditionally but it's sonically way less interesting than NRO. Also NRO coming at a time when Katy was beyond her peak and it still did so well in numbers tells us that it truly is that song.

That's impressive considering the fact that Unconditionally was released before the streaming era took off.   Yeah it took time for it to have those numbers but I think Roar really overshadowed the success of Unconditionally, it peaked at #14 on the hot 100 while roar was still in the top 10.   Prisim era had some kind of more depth then Teenage dream era.  It's a shame how the GP only really sees it as the Roar & Dark Horse era.   Those two singles overshadowed the entire album imo.  The single choices also could've been a bit better.  I don't understand how TIHWD was even a single?  Walking on Air was right there.

Wow Unconditionally was such an underperformance at the time, I didn't realize it got some footing in streaming

Both among her best, but Unconditionally might be my favorite from her. There's just something in the song that hits me on different levels.

Two of her greatest songs & deserved so much more

Unconditionally is so much better, it's got that cheesy prism Katy touch y'all apparently love. NRO is just noise

Both are top tier Katy songs, but Unconditionally still wins with a landslide. It's top 3 in her discography.

From an objective point of view, I do view Unconditionally to be the better song... but Never Really Over is perhaps one of her biggest all consuming ear worms in her discography for me and I can listen to it on repeat for days. I can't really do that for Unconditionally, though.

peak katy vs hate train katy, this makes NRO look like a mega smash if anything

There really was no reason why Unconditionally shouldn't have been another #1 for her. It was always an amazing song

Roar was simply too big, and Dark Horse was already starting to take off to be a monster smash. Uncle Deshawn Ali stood no chance unfortunately.

Unconditionally is the ultimate Katy Perry hit after Teenage Dream, Roar, California Girls, and Firework :bird:

Unconditionally is one of my fave katy song, lyrics and mv are gorgeous.

Too bad it was cannibalised by being sandwiched between two biggest smashes.
