The article mentioned that Ariana had more paid streams which contribute more points. Kelly actually had more streams overall and she gets more airplay. 3

It looks like Ed and Elton's "Merry Christmas" has the early lead on "Santa can't you hear me?" for the 2020s. I think the next Christmas song to reach the Top 10 will be a male artist, whether it be IBTLaLLC or Merry Christmas. 1

Who? I literally cannot tell who you mean by this description. Sounds pretty floppy to me. 1
jamiko1230 Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago (edited) So in 2025 Mariah is def. reclaiming her record for most weeks at #1. Highly likely will achieve 20+ weeks. So even if Bar Song got those 2-3 more weeks or whatever (when it wobbled between #1 & #2) Mariah still would've gotten the record just 1 year later in 2026 max. Atp, dunno how BB is gonna just abruptly change the rule again. Backlash and hysteria would be too much lol. By the end of the decade in 5 years she could def. end up with 30 weeks at #1! At best I'm on the fence w/ their system. Ya, technically the most popular song should chart wherever it does regardless (only up until 2012 or 2013 there was a separate holiday chart) + 'old songs' were ineligible to chart on the Hot 100. Outside the US old songs were always allowed on the regular chart. But HOW is any new song gonna ever have shot to catch the record for most weeks at #1. It's totally impossible now. Ya, someone like Taylor etc...def. gonna challenge Mariah & the Beatles for most #1s but Mariah is assured the same #1 song every single year now until forever lol. The fact that My All is her first 1 week #1 and it's like her best single of all time. I hate every ounce of Tommy Motorola on the strength of that alone. In a perfect world, Mariah secures 18 weeks then next year lands two more weeks (20 weeks) and then they push Wham! Last Christmas to #1. I need Mariah on board and to remix the song even if she doesn't get credit (would be iconic if she did) to help it peak at #1. Brenda had her turn and Wham should be up next but AFTER Mariah secures the most weeks of all time. 2

Yes, Billboard KNOWS better than to change the rules until AFTER they give Mariah her things next year. I do think Wham's Last Christmas, The Kelly song and the Ariana song and potential new songs might break ground in the future. It's totally possible but I don't think a new song will be able to snatch 4-5 weeks at #1 a year. How i see it Mariah will have an early lead in late November and early December giving her 2-3 weeks to play with but mid to late December where a new song can snatch Mimi's tresses like ole Brenda did last year. Last Christmas is the only current xmas song I see doing it but if Adele shook the table and gave us a xmas album and a new classic: Oh wait a tick. Whew chile what if Adele and Celine team up for an Adele Xmas album. The game is theirs... but like someone who has not entered the chat yet but comes through with the line of the session could become a future threat. 1

jamiko1230 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago ^ great points. Agree 'something'/someone else likely brewing or another circumstance will happen which (maybe at worst) 'only' gives Mariah a week or 2 at #1 lol. Kind of like what happened last year with Brenda Lee and to a smaller degree this year w/ Kendrick Lamar. Meaning record companies start purposely putting out massive named surprise release and singles due to lower points mid-late Nov. and easier to bag up a #1. Ya, *Adele (esp. a surprise X-mas album from her) that ends up going into orbit, truly clicks & becomes a legit X-Mas anthem similar to AIWFC. Blockades Mariah most if not all that specific year & maybe competes year after year. There's just waay too many bank to be made for only 1 or 2 songs to keep dominating. X-Mas songs are crushing it more and more w/ streams and sales. Gotta think other big/huge names & their record companies are already on it. Plus, w/ Ariana, Kelly & others are peaking higher each year couldn't be more getting the memo lol.

Well Mariah and the song are literally the only ones with this type of monopoly so it deserves to have the record forever.

Yeah Mariah deserves to largely eclipse the second highest number of weeks at #1 at this point. The song deserves to be Billboard's biggest hit of all time. No other song has the power to go back to #1 on a yearly basis. That is real power and legacy of a song. In reality, at some point years down the line, some fresher newer christmas song will eventually become THEE song of christmas for future generations. I could honestly see Santa Tell Me or Underneath the Tree eventually being yearly #1s. 1
