Katamari Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago during the sssmmm post chorus the song notably uses a instrumental sample from master and servant both song also use the "come on" as a hook but that might be pushing it 50% royalties, do you hear it? 1 2 1

dumbsparce Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I hear it but maybe it was a coincidence? It's quite a simple little tune.

JoeAg Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I slightly hear it but honestly the similarities between S&M and Charli's Mean Girls is way more catching to my ear tbh
vuelve88 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago It would be a nice way for Rihanna to shine a light on an up and coming artist like she did for Paul McCartney. 4

LadyDiana Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Didn't they say they are giving up on any royalties, just bcs they don't want to be associated with Rihanna in any way? 1
Alongoria13 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago 90% of artists should pay royalties given the Depeche print is virtually everywhere 1
Junipero Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) Perhaps it is on the producer? I know that many of the big producers in the early 2010's used Vengeance Sound Sample packs(RedOne used it for the bassline in Judas, Dr. Luke I think said he used one of the sample packs for ideas as well); I heard there were moments when the creator of the sample packs had sampled without permission some sounds, which many found hypocritical considering how expensive those packs were. For example, here is the Judas sample(and yet Gaga was complaining to RedOne and begged for credit on Jlo's album despite not comming up with the bassline): Edited 5 hours ago by Junipero

MatiRod Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) It's not the same melody. But S&M/Only Girl are very synth-pop influenced which Depeche Mode are a big part of so there is an influence, but it's not the exact same notes. That said, after Blurred Lines they might have a case Edited 3 hours ago by MatiRod
