Should Depeche Mode get songwriting credits on LOUD

during the sssmmm post chorus the song notably uses a instrumental sample from master and servant

both song also use the "come on" as a hook but that might be pushing it

50% royalties, do you hear it?

Depeche Mode i Rihanna

I hear it but maybe it was a coincidence? It's quite a simple little tune.

Rihanna is a fan of them so I doubt it was a coincidence :fan:

I can tell I'm a tone deaf person cause I swear everytime I try and hear these comparisons people talk about I can never tell wtf is going on.

actually both songs interpolate The Cure's "Let's Go To Bed"

I slightly hear it but honestly the similarities between S&M and Charli's Mean Girls is way more catching to my ear tbh :coffee2:

It would be a nice way for Rihanna to shine a light on an up and coming artist like she did for Paul McCartney. :alexz3:

Quite a few pop girlies seem to be influenced by DM :clap3: Hilary Duff's "Reach Out" heavily samples "Personal Jesus" and Gaga's "Dance in the Dark" sounds like "Strangelove".

Didn't they say they are giving up on any royalties, just bcs they don't want to be associated with Rihanna in any way?

90% of artists should pay royalties given the Depeche print is virtually everywhere

Perhaps it is on the producer?
I know that many of the big producers in the early 2010's used Vengeance Sound Sample packs(RedOne used it for the bassline in Judas, Dr. Luke I think said he used one of the sample packs for ideas as well); I heard there were moments when the creator of the sample packs had sampled without permission some sounds, which many found hypocritical considering how expensive those packs were.

For example, here is the Judas sample(and yet Gaga was complaining to RedOne and begged for credit on Jlo's album despite not comming up with the bassline):

Yup, and they get royalties from S&M. That answers the thread.

I'd settle for a collab :alexz3:

master and servant is such a ******* bop

It's not the same melody. But S&M/Only Girl are very synth-pop influenced which Depeche Mode are a big part of so there is an influence, but it's not the exact same notes. That said, after Blurred Lines they might have a case :rip:

One lawsuit at a time please

thank you

it seems like a lot of musicians from this era just aren't interested in suing over this stuff.

i mean elvis costello could probably (definitely) have sued olivia rodrigo for credits on brutal and this was his response

mind you, neither depeche mode nor elvis costello need the money so that might be a factor :gaycat4:

Asking for a credit would be admiting they stole it from the cure and that is not happening
