Are we really going to do this? The lobbyist is a friend and donor and Trump successfully avoided a prison sentence.

I think the issue is that frustration simply doesn't, in the end, change how facts play out.

That this + the Gaza ceasefire are both examples of liberal frustration and going "BUT YOU DON'T GET IT!!! HE DOESN'T MEAN IT!! HE'S DOING IT FOR THE WRONG REASONS!!" just ultimately doesn't mean much for people.

Of course Trump is doing as you said - doing a favor for a friend, but it becomes apparent now that having few political convictions outside of winning... is electorally good!

Elected Democrats have proven again and again they're ideologically tailored to a worldview that prioritizes rich people and can't be moved to do things that would be electorally positive for them and a net win despite upsetting their right-wing donors or going against their own right-wing convictions. Biden is going to his grave calling Israel the most beautiful country in the world and literally saying his legacy he wants to be remembered for is..... enabling Israel? :deadbanana2:

Meanwhile Trump's entire worldview for what he simply isn't interested in can be flipped 180 degrees if shown it will help him win or become more popular, no matter if it's even possible or something others don't want him to do. Liberals fear breaking norms while Trump is like "lol more!!!". He's now apparently fine taking on an act of Congress, something Biden himself would only do to help kill one last Palestinian child.

And Dems... simply haven't yet discovered how to cope with this reality? How to overcome someone who just wants to be well-liked so.. does popular things even when ideologically incoherent and often at odds with his other policies? Basically:

@Communion I get some of your points but I don't have the energy to extrapolate this to Israel at the moment though I understand the parallels as part of your larger argument. Maybe later.

He failed to do the things he promised and lied to the public about his health

Maybe you don't know my history here but I've never defended Biden on this board in the past three years except maybe twice. The context between myself and @Communion falls under that. Hope that helps.

I know, right? They care more about a stupid app than something important like student loans and education. The US is such a mess of a country

Whoever lied to Donny that he is adored on tik tok, thank u :jonny5:

I hope they don't ban it, but if they end up changing it/controling the algorithm etc. then they might as well ban it ofc.

So many important topics are being discussed on tik tok for the first time ever whereas before very few people were talking about those things. I really do feel like it's the most important social media app of today and not just cuz it's the most popular, it just feels a bit different, like it plays a big role in the awakening of the people.

With that said there's also a **** ton of misinfo and other bad things that come with tik tok, just like any other social media, but yeah.

Well, not really.

Biden's not enforcing it.

So this essentially comes down to Tom Cotton versus Donald Trump.

Cotton always wanted to be president so we'll see what direction the party's taken by 2028.

Trump's argument is being dressed up as protecting free speech but he only cares about money and has never had a consistent opinion on this issue.

So how do you think this will go? Seeing Clarence Thomas as being part of the SC makes all the sense now, old evil fakes who never had a moment of happiness unless its to siphon the misery off others they don't like

Do you think Tom fears Trump's retaliation?

I don't and that's what's so fascinating about this entire dynamic.

In many aspects of both domestic and foreign policy Tom Cotton is going in the complete opposite direction of Josh Hawley but many political observers would argue it's still MAGA.

Tom Cotton knows and can argue forcefully that Trump is beholden to China and he'd be able to survive a primary on it.

It's the inherent divisions of the 2028 and 2032 GOP primary already playing out.

Supreme Court may have overruled on the TikTok ban but The Biden administration has signed a 36 hour stay for the 19th of Jan. so the Trump administration can take over a decide what they want to do, which is likely to keep it.

I can't believe there are so many more urgent stuff to do in this country but they act so fast on this…:suburban:

But can Congress override Trump's veto? Does Tom Cotton have the votes? That's the question.

Yeah, i get that but Trump has a cult essentially, that's what got him all those votes. Thats why I don't think anyone can replace him, its this charismatic villainy they love that can't be replicated.
