MatiRod Posted January 10 Posted January 10 The music industry would be thrown into chaos. Every label's marketing strategy, major or indie, is "make as many TikToks as you can". I'm not even kidding or trying to be shady. TikTok is the best way to break new music. 1
Curaga Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Don't they want to ban it because ByteDance could relinquish its collected user data to the Chinese government? I don't think the content available on the platform has anything to do with the ban proposal; I think it's solely based on it being a China-owned platform, but correct me if I'm wrong. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-64797355

Mean Trees Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Good decision from Tiktok. Let the American tech oligarchs duke it out for the new Tiktok alternative. Stop the current love in between them.

Yes, the problem is that major label completely abandonned other avenues at the profit of TikTok; putting all their eggs in the same basket. Then again, the music industry is not great at adapting so that is no surprise. 2
Cesar Posted January 11 Posted January 11 The only reason they want to do this was because they ruined Israels image. The democrats weren't on board until the genocide expose. Tiktok exposed the government for their unconditional support of Israel. The American government, politicans, corporations are mad that they can't control peoples view anymore. 1 1
Cesar Posted January 11 Posted January 11 if they ban tiktok it'd be a little too extreme for the country to do, they are likely going to still ban it, but allow them to sell it within a certain timeframe. or atleast thats least case scenario

It might be immediate because the actual fines and regulations have nothing to do with TikTok. They've basically made these regulations so TikTok is deemed in a certain category and are punishing companies like Apple and Google for every day apps within the category TikTok is now in are listed within the app store. Google and Apple woh't want to be fined, so that is how they hoped to pressure TikTok to sell and get out of being classified like this.
Suilen Posted Tuesday at 07:53 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:53 PM TikTok has been carrying the book publishing industry for quite some time so it'll be interesting to see what happens if the ban goes through. BookTok has its share of criticism, and it was responsible for promoting plenty of questionable works, but it also gave people something to talk about. Well, some may make a transition to YouTube since books should be discussed in a longer format anyway, but "recommended by YouTube" doesn't have the same ring to it.

Americans don't really care about free trade/free markets or freedom of speech. These are things that they like to talk about, but both Republicans and Democrats want social media to be controlled by a white man who is answerable to US courts. 3
Dera Posted Wednesday at 06:28 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:28 PM time to download tiktok and screen record all the reels from my celebrity crush
jdanton2 Posted Thursday at 07:07 PM Posted Thursday at 07:07 PM a few years ago Trump was pushing for the ban because of the China ties . he then used Tiktok during his campaign last year .
