The original uploads are still up and these seem to be identical. What's going on?

I think it's either a hack or reposting with "proper HD" videos.

They're no better quality though. This replacement looks worse to me

They've gone private so it is definitely an upscale version is just that upscaled videos take a while to adjust to the highest resolution and add to that the fact that it is also affected by internet reception.

Agreed. I appreciate that labels are remastering old music videos but some of them do not look good at all, especially the old ones from the 80s and 90s and it's probably due to how technology was at the time.

 

Sometimes 480p is okay!
