You know the songs that get played at every wedding reception. They are often the artists most corniest, middle of the road song. Everyone knows them regardless of demographic. And often times the artist themselves hate the song, but it has such staying power that it's the song they are most known for.

Look at Christina Perri. She has a classic wedding song that will probably stay for many more years but her actual career lasted less than two

You could say the same for funerals or non-wedding celebrations like graduation, promotion, birthdays or a birth, so not really.

Wedding songs are classics but 99% of classics overall can not be played at a wedding without sounding out of place.

Life event mainstay classic = icon. Wedding, funerals, graduations and holidays. And any artist with all four is a legend. Bonus points for the holiday song being Halloween or 4th of July.
