sugarysunflower Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) if your fave or a pop star has had a stage parent or during their career they have been an entertainment insider, lawyer, financier or otherwise affiliated background / network (e.g., giving up their FT-job to become their manager or relocated the entire family to kickstart their career) you're automatically excluded. this thread is for 1) successful 2) self-starters only. please discuss. ChooseyLover Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) 11 minutes ago, Pheromosa said: wasn't her mother an opera singer? I have yet to read her autobiography but I doubt her mother ever helped her in any way to become a singer (professionally) considering she was jealous of her own daughter. If Mariah is not a self-made singer then I don't know who is. Also I don't get the point of this thread. Obviously singers who started out as kids because they were absolute child prodigies had to be supported by their parents. Britney was far from privileged despite having a "stage mother". tost1 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Dua's career was self-made and also self-destructed. An independent woman! 3
holyground13 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago The definition of a stage mom is kinda unclear - is it a parent that supported their children's artistic interests as a kid or forced them to take part? Because most pop stars would have began taking interest in music at a young age and their parents often would have supported them. Even I wouldn't call Britney's mom a stage mom particularly because Britney was the one who wanted a career in entertainment, and same for Beyoncé's father, though in regard to getting places in entertainment - Britney had Larry Rudolph and Matthew Knowles knew business well too. 1
