Oh wow.

If he's dead, bye! But I can't imagine this is exactly a strep forward for stability in Syria.

unfortunately I'm sure the power vacuum will be filled by another awful regime or even more civil war but farewell to that rat. Russia couldn't help him out this time huh

Is this true?  (I'm just shocked at the events of today)

fully expect there to be a civil war and/or an ISIS-esque regime to take over, sadly.

I remember when the war first broke out. That boy that they tortured and killed.  I've been waiting for his demise ever since.

Shocking how quick this went from being an almost 14-year civil war that was seemingly in a stalemate with Assad staying in control of most of the country, to it all being over in just over a week. Best wishes to the people in Syria for what may come after.

Although the world has always been a mess, having easy access to immediate news makes it feel like the world is ending.

Israel is annexing more land in Golan Heights as we speak. You think peace is coming anytime soon?

This just makes it easier for Israel to do their shenanigans on their northern border now :deadbanana2:

Yep, like clockwork.

I'm honestly impressed at how quickly those rebels ended a regime that has been in power since the 70s

Obviously Assad is a viscuous dictator, but I'm not sure if what's coming next will be better for the Syrian people.

This is true. But as depressing as our current age is, it can get way worse. Imagine the internet during WW2, where 80 million people died over six years.

Obviously this will bring only more chaos and death to the population and the vultures (US, EU, Israel, Russia and China) will try to benefit from the situation.

It's interesting. Assad's regime needed to fall but the fact that whatever comes next will equally awful.

A Syrian airplane took off from Damascus airport around the time the capital was reported to have been taken by Syria's rebels, according to data from the Flightradar website, suggesting ousted president Bashar al-Assad may have been onboard.

The aircraft initially flew towards Syria's coastal region, a stronghold of Assad's Alawite sect, but then made an abrupt U-turn and flew in the opposite direction for a few minutes before disappearing off the map.

Reuters has not been able to ascertain who was on board.

Two Syrian sources say there is a very high probability that Assad may have been killed in a plane crash as it was a mystery why the plane took a surprise U-turn and disappeared off the map.

Never seen a government collapse as quickly or as unexpectedly as this. :rip: There really are weeks where decades happen.

The Afghan government collapsed in less than a day back in 2021.

An awful day for Tulsi Gabbard

You won't be saying this when there is regime change happening in Iran in a few weeks/months.

Most of your people aren't realising that Israel has practically did regime changes in Iran's neighborhood. With Syria becoming a defacto Israeli puppet now, they can cleanse Southern Lebanon with much ease as well. The day the regime changes in Iran, it's pretty much over for Palestinian resistance as well.

The Taliban had been making advances as far back as 2019. It's why Trump negotiated with them to begin with. A Taliban win was expected, it was just faster than normal.

On the other hand, two weeks ago everyone more or less agreed Assad had "won" the civil war. :rip: Even yesterday, I thought they'd put up a fight in Damascus at least.
