If the military goes against this, that will be against their constitution and welp all hell will break loose…

This is where President Biden will come in. The SK military is basically subservient to the US.

We can only hope that the military forces have any braincells left and concede defeat of their supreme ruler who wants to be a dictator it seems.

It's refreshing to see a democracy not fail.

I am from Myanmar and the world has turned a blind eye on us. China, India and Russia are allies with the military and thousands have died. Millions flee the country. Hell has been normalized.

You are posting stuff that happened before the vote, that unanimously (190 members of the parliament) called to stop the martial law. SK sources from my timeline say that the military has retreated, but who knows for how long. Everyone is waiting on how the president's office will respond, because who knows what kind of drama can still happen.

No one in the press seems to be putting out anything consistent on this.

Clearly SK is not an ASEAN or one of those African countries.

I don't think that the military is going to risk tarnishing its reputation over this, it's crucial that the instituion is viewed positively. And since it consists of ordinary men, they must at least fear that their families could be among the protestors. But the president and whoever supported him clearly didn't think of/don't care about the ramnifications, so something may still go south.

The military HAS retreated from the National Assembly, but only the president can put an end to the martial law, so SK is still under martial law. Though I'm pretty sure he HAS to respect the vote, otherwise him vetoing the vote would be unconstitutional (unsure about this though). Which would then prompt the question is South Korea heading into a civil war if the president doesn't concede... so how this develops is still up in the air and **** is TENSE.

He is kind of the same place as Nixon was in 1974 (without the martial law part). His own party is also disowning him and considering how he doesnt really have a support base (his net approval rating is negative lmao), yea I'd suggest he resigns if he wants to save his ass
